K-Pop inspired book "Shine" Review [ENG/ESP]
Hello Hive and Book Club Community!
I love books set in the public eye, be it books about actors, celebrities, and in this case, singers and idols, and today I'll tell you a bit about my opinion of Shine, a book inspired by the world of kpop, written by none other than a former kpop idol herself!
Rachel is a Korean-American trainee at one of the top k-pop artist companies, but her life training to be a star is not as easy and shiny as everyone insists it is, under the spotlight for being a favorite of her company's boss, Rachel is constantly criticized and judged by those who are supposed to be her peers to the point that she's not even sure why she's still living the life of an apprentice, but her love of music drives her onward in hopes of making her long-awaited debut.
With everyone waiting for the famed apprentice Rachel to make a serious mistake to drag her down, she is forced to pretend to be more than she likes, in a world where your image is worth everything Rachel has to fake a smile and a friendly attitude even at her worst moments, But when one of the most famous artists of her company sets his eye on the young Rachel and little by little she falls in love with him, our protagonist will find herself in serious trouble with the whole world waiting to devour her.

The "villains" in this story are nothing more than other apprentices who, in order to be the best and the chosen ones to shine, stand in the way of anyone who can take away their position and create a deep hatred for the protagonists, as is the case of Mina, the main villain of the story and the one determined to destroy not only the career of Rachel, but also her life, interfering in many important moments to try to ruin everything.
Rachel for her part is very naive in all the situations she's supposed to be cautious with, but I guess that's where her personality shines through... I think so, it really got kind of obnoxious to see the same patterns of behavior repeated over and over again in dramatic situations, it's not until the end that she decides to straighten her shoulders and not be taken as a game by anyone else, but Mina, the antagonist, won't let her rest.

It was an entertaining book to read, more if you are a fan of the Asian entertainment world, but sometimes things went too far and felt a bit unrealistic, even so I feel it portrayed in a decent way the competitiveness and restrictions that are in the music industry, it is a book that maybe I could read another twice but not beyond that, I still look forward to its sequel, as I feel it promises much more in its plot than the first part of Shine.
