Kpop favorites this 2021! [ENG/ESP]

Seré totalmente sincera, ni siquiera sé que he hecho los últimos tres meses, la verdad es que este año paso en abrir y cerrar de ojos y siento que el tiempo se me ha escapado de las manos, la cantidad de música que he escuchado este 2021 fue simplemente absurda en comparación de los años anteriores, apenas escuche más de 50 canciones nuevas este año y lo cierto es que me he quedado bastante dentro de mi nicho de confort; no he explorado nuevos artistas y mucho menos escuchado música más allá de los grupos y solistas que ya sigo, así que creo que esta lista carecerá de variedad en artistas y estilos musicales, pero aun así me encuentro bastante determinada a compartirles mis favoritos en kpop de este año

I'll be totally honest, I don't even know what I've been doing the last three months, the truth is that this year passed in the blink of an eye and I feel like time has slipped through my fingers, the amount of music I've listened to this 2021 was simply absurd compared to previous years, I barely listened to more than 50 new songs this year and the truth is that I've stayed pretty much within my comfort niche; I haven't explored new artists, let alone listened to music beyond the groups and solo artists I already follow, so I think this list will lack variety in artists and musical styles, but I'm still pretty determined to share with you my kpop favorites from this year.
Para este 2021 me he inclinado más hacía la música más calmada y suave, canciones y melodías sencillas donde se destaque más las voces y las armonías que otra cosa, si bien aún sigo aprendiendo sobre música (y para este 2022 quiero sin duda aprender correctamente más cosas) he encontrado bastante felicidad y comodidad en este año en canciones simplemente bonitas, no encuentro otra manera de definirlo, canciones bonitas, ya sabes, esas que te hacen sentir que estas romantizando tu vida como una película o viendo al mundo con lentes rosas. Así que sin más vueltas ¡Comencemos!
For this 2021 I've been leaning more towards calmer and softer music, simple songs and melodies where the vocals and harmonies stand out more than anything else, while I'm still learning about music (and for this 2022 I definitely want to learn more things correctly) I've found quite happiness and comfort this year in simply pretty songs, I find no other way to define it, pretty songs, you know, those that make you feel like you're romanticizing your life as a movie or seeing the world with rose-colored glasses. So without further ado, let's get started!
Alcohol Free ― TWICE
Siendo sincera, esta canción no me convenció al inicio, digo, realmente me gusto pero fue otro meh! del mes, poco a poco fue creciendo dentro de mí y lo cierto es que, con el clima del lugar donde vivo (una zona bastante tropical y playera) esta canción se ajusto para encajar a la perfección en todos los días de mi año, con una mezcla “cóctel” de distintos estilos tropicales, alcohol-free fue una canción fresca para mis oídos y que no había escuchado antes en un grupo de kpop, probablemente junto a “Next Level” de aespa, mi canción más escuchada este 2021
To be honest, this song did not convince me at the beginning, I mean, I really liked it but it was another meh! of the month, little by little it grew inside me and the truth is that, with the climate of the place where I live (a quite tropical and beachy area) this song was adjusted to fit perfectly in every day of my year, with a "cocktail" mix of different tropical styles, alcohol-free was a fresh song for my ears and that I had not heard before in a kpop group, probably together with "Next Level" by aespa, my most listened song this 2021.
Savage ― aespa
A pesar de que “Next Level” fue mi canción más escuchada este año (como ya nombre arriba) la verdad fue Savage que termino de ganarse mi corazón y mi cerebro, tan pronto como Savage apareció y termine de acostumbrarme a ella(porque eso si, esta canción no me convencía al principio), el “i’m on the next level” fue remplazado sin pensarlo dos veces por el “oh my gosh, don't you know i’m a savage?” de “Savage” cada vez que escucho esta canción puedo imaginarme todo una historia de ficción en mi mente, y desde su lanzamiento no paro de repetirla una y otra vez casi a diario.
Even though "Next Level" was my most listened song this year (as I already named above) the truth was Savage that won my heart and my brain, as soon as Savage appeared and I got used to it (because this song didn't convince me at the beginning), the "i'm on the next level" was replaced without a second thought by the "oh my gosh, don't you know i’m a savage? "every time I listen to this song I can imagine a whole fictional story in my mind, and since its release I keep repeating it over and over again almost daily.
LO$ER=LO♡ER ― TXT
Continuando con la sinceridad brutal, solo escuche esta canción por que el nombre se me hizo curioso, no pensé que me gustaría tanto como lo hizo (y me siento hasta mal por ello porque parece ser la canción menos preferida de muchos) pero la verdad es que “LO$ER=LO♡ER” me recuerda mucho a lo que solían lanzar los boy groups alrededor del 2013-2015, y mi cerebro apelando a la nostalgia, se enamoro de esta canción
Continuing with the brutal honesty, I only listened to this song because the name became curious to me, I didn't think I would like it as much as it did (and I even feel bad about it because it seems to be the least favorite song of many) but the truth is that "LO$ER=LO♡ER" reminds me a lot of what the boy groups used to release around 2013-2015, and my brain appealing to nostalgia, fell in love with this song.
SOS ― TWICE
Probablemente el b-side que más he escuchado de cualquier álbum lanzado este año, junto a “Scandal” del ep “Taste of love” se volvieron mis canciones preferidas de TWICE este año, simplemente son canciones demasiado buenas y que ame por completo (TWICE sin duda ha sabido como adueñarse del concepto retro y darles su toque personal y fresco)
Probably the b-side I've listened to the most of any album released this year, together with "Scandal" from the "Taste of love" ep became my favorite TWICE songs this year, they are simply too good and I loved them completely (TWICE has certainly known how to take the retro concept and give them their personal and fresh touch).
Scientist ― TWICE
Esta canción esta aquí porque representa a todo el álbum de “Formula of love”. En mi reseña sobre este full álbum deje en claro que Scientist me parecía lejos de ser la mejor canción de aquel proyecto, pero al final, de tanto escucharla para apoyar a las chicas me acostumbre bastante bien a ella, es una canción sencilla, nada especial o nuevo, pero bastante linda y llena del carisma y personalidad de las miembros (y eso para un fan del grupo como yo, está lleno de mucho valor) No es su mejor lanzamiento de este año, pero se las arreglo para ser una de mis canciones de kpop más escuchadas este 2021
This song is here because it represents the whole "Formula of love" album. In my review about this full album I made it clear that Scientist seemed to me far from being the best song of that project, but in the end, after listening to it so much to support the girls I got used to it pretty well, it's a simple song, nothing special or new, but pretty cute and full of the charisma and personality of the members (and that for a fan of the group like me, is full of much value) It's not their best release of this year, but it manages to be one of my most listened kpop songs this 2021.
Weekend ― Taeyeon
Como decía al inicio, este año me he inclinado por canciones calmadas y que me hagan romantizar mi vida, Weekend es quizás la descripción perfecta para ello, la verdad es que al inicio se me hacía la canción más aburrida, para luego de varios meses de ser lanzada escuche el coro en un vídeo y le di una nueva oportunidad y desde entonces me he quedado bastante enganchada a ella, el estilo retro que originalmente me alejo de la canción fue quien termino arrastrándome hacía ella nuevamente y he yo aquí, fielmente tarareado la melodía de Weekend mientras escribo esto
As I said at the beginning, this year I have leaned towards calm songs that make me romanticize my life, Weekend is perhaps the perfect description for it, the truth is that at the beginning it made me the most boring song, but after several months of being released I heard the chorus in a video and I gave it a new opportunity and since then I've been quite hooked to it, the retro style that originally took me away from the song was the one who ended up dragging me towards it again and here I am, faithfully humming the melody of Weekend as I write this
Siesta ― Weki Meki
Weki meki es de los grupos que, musicalmente hablando, nunca me fallan, simplemente se las arreglan para lanzar canciones buenas y a la “moda” del momento sin perder ese color característico que representa al grupo, Siesta es un concepto y canción más vivido y lleno de color que en comparación a sus dos últimos lanzamientos “Cool” y "Oopsy" pero aun manteniendo esa chispa de madurez que han traído a su música y discografía este ultimo año, cuenta con una letra hermosa y una melodía digna de una Fiesta consigo mismo, tomando prestado de cierta manera el concepto “Elegante” que IZ*ONE dejo atrás al separarse fue un lanzamiento que si bien paso desapercibido por muchos creo que aporto bastante en el kpop este año
Weki meki is one of the groups that, musically speaking, never fail me, they simply manage to release good and "fashionable" songs without losing that characteristic color that represents the band, Siesta is a concept and song more vivid and full of color than their last two releases "Cool" and "Oopsy" but still maintaining that spark of maturity that they have brought to their music and discography this last year, Siesta has beautiful lyrics and a melody worthy of a party with itself, borrowing in a way the "Elegant" concept that IZ*ONE left behind when they split up, it was a release that although it went unnoticed by many, I think it contributed a lot to kpop this year.
Stereotype ― StayC
StayC son probablemente de las responsables de este “boom” de los conceptos más “tiernos” este año y personalmente, se los agradezco, salvaron mi playlist de este 2021. Stereotype no me cerro del todo la primera vez que la escuche, pero me vi volviendo a ella una y otra vez, y eso significaba algo, que esta canción me había atrapado sin siquiera ser consciente de ello! No es un lanzamiento que podamos llamar un “mega hit” pero quien dijo que la música debería ser siempre canciones únicas y llamativas con coros destacables y “killing parts”, encontré bastante confort en esta canción en especifico, una melodía curiosa, algo plana y sin mucho ocurriendo al mismo tiempo, pero aun así ejecutado de una manera inteligente
StayC are probably responsible for this "boom" of the most "cute" concepts this year and personally, I thank them, they saved my playlist of this 2021. Stereotype didn't quite close me the first time I listened to it, but I found myself coming back to it again and again, and that meant something, that this song had caught me without even being aware of it! It's not a release that we can call a "mega hit" but who said that music should always be unique and flashy songs with outstanding choruses and "killing parts", I found quite a lot of comfort in this specific song, a curious melody, something flat and without much going on at the same time, but still executed in a clever way.
Boyfriend ― cignature
De esta canción hable recientemente, Boyfriend repite un poco la fórmula de “Love so sweet” una canción sencilla, con un ritmo repetitivo y una melodía llena de dulzura y algo de nostalgia, creo que lo que más destaca en esta canción son las voces de las chicas de cignature, realmente se las arreglaron para cargar con esta canción sin hacerla aburrida o olvidable (a mi parecer), y al final del día le agarre bastante aprecio a esta canción
I talked about this song recently, Boyfriend repeats a little bit the formula of "Love so sweet" a simple song, with a repetitive rhythm and a melody full of sweetness and some nostalgia, I think what stands out the most in this song are the voices of the cignature girls, they really managed to carry this song without making it boring or forgettable (in my opinion), and at the end of the day I really liked this song.
Love so sweet ― Cherry Bullet
Y Seguimos nuevamente con canciones sencilla, con un ritmo repetitivo, pero agradable y que te hacen ver el mundo con gafas color rosa, Love so sweet me mantuvo enganchada por bastante rato cuando fue lanzada y no hay mucho que especificar sobre esta canción, simplemente es una melodía dulce y colorida que retrata lo dulce que puede llegar a ser el amor
And we continue again with simple songs, with a repetitive rhythm, but pleasant and that make you see the world with rose-colored glasses, Love so sweet kept me hooked for quite a while when it was released and there is not much to specify about this song, it is simply a sweet and colorful melody that portrays how sweet love can be.
O.O.O ― GirlsPlanet 999
Para este punto de la lista ya me estoy quedando sin palabras :-P, Over & Over & Over es probablemente mi historia de enemigos a amantes de este año, esta canción me parecía fatal, sin chiste alguno y de lo más simple por haber en el kpop (y no de la manera buena) pero pronto me encontré agarrándole el gusto, y en gran parte esto es gracias a ese concepto “Mágico” y de “esperanza” que rodea a esta canción y su significado, no la considero precisamente de las mejores canciones que he escuchado este año, pero si de mis favoritas (no sé si eso tenga siquiera sentido)
By this point of the list I'm already running out of words : -P, Over & Over & Over is probably my enemies to lovers story this year, this song seemed to me to be awful, no joke and one of the simplest thing ever in kpop (and not in a good way) but I soon found myself liking it, and in large part this is thanks to that "Magical" and "hope" concept that surrounds this song and its meaning, I don't consider it precisely one of the best songs I've heard this year, but one of my favorites (I don't know if that even makes sense).
Dreams comes true ― aespa
Finalmente termine esta lista! Por último tenemos al lanzamiento más reciente en la lista, Dreams comes true de aespa, es un remake de la canción bajo a el mismo título lanzada por el legendario grupo de kpop S.E.S y si bien –ignorantemente- no he escuchado la versión original de las canción, aespa me tiene bastante a sus pies y soy bien consciente que no podre soltarme pronto de esta canción y con tan solo escucharla dos vez sin duda puedo llamarla de mis lanzamientos (o re-lanzamientos) favoritos de este año!
Finally I'm done with this list! Last but not least we have the most recent release on the list, Dreams comes true by aespa, it's a remake of the song under the same title released by the legendary kpop group S.E.S and although -ignorantly- I haven't heard the original version of the song, aespa has me pretty much at their feet and I'm well aware that I won't be able to let go of this song anytime soon and with just two listens I can definitely call it one of my favorite releases (or re-releases) of this year!
