I found this initiative circling around in a cinnamon cup of coffee but only today I have the time to sit down and answer the questions in this initiative. The prompts are initiated by @brujita and followed by others. So, let’s get to know my coffee habit and the story below !

My Story With Coffee

At what age did you start drinking coffee?

I couldn’t quite remember but I started drinking more coffee during my high school. I was one of the many people who drank instant coffee or powdered coffee. It took me a while to get into the world of coffee and once I earn some money myself, I indulge myself in crafted coffees and roastery beans. Now, I rarely find myself drinking instant coffee and I avoid it as much as I can.

How do you prefer your coffee?

It really depends. If I am the one who makes it, I prefer it black and no sugar. But if I am outside, I’d order either caramel macchiato or a single origin coffee prepared with either v60 or french press. though in my blog, you’d often find me drinking sugared or milk coffee especially these days with my recent addiction to Stabucks. On another note, I also like exploring blends of coffee from mixing it with alcohol to random juices.

How do you feel that the consumption of coffee benefits you?

Drinking coffee is like drinking water to me. It’s already part of my day the way we drink water. I don’t really see other benefits that people feel when they drink coffee. I am someone who consumes pure caffeine pills if I need an actual kick or want to get into productive and focused mode. When I stop drinking coffee for days, I don’t intensely feel the headache or any withdrawal. It’s quite strange to me but that’s what happened.

How many times do you drink coffee a day?

These days, my consumption of it is less. Perhaps getting older is a factor. My body isn’t the same as 5 years ago when I was able to chug coffee and have more than 1 lt/day. Sometimes I drink it mixed with alcohol of my preference. I’d suggest trying this mix because some of it is really good. Now, I am good with just one cup a day or at maximum two cups.

Do you think that coffee is a tradition in the family?

It was interesting to me that I am the only one in the family that is obsessed about coffee and quite adventurous with all sorts of drinkable liquids. They are often the ones who remind me to lessen my coffee consumption. The only kind of coffee that my family drinks is white coffee and sometimes, powdered store-bought arabica.

That’s quite a bit of my story with coffee and that reminds me, the other day, I was visiting Excelso cafe which was located at a mall in Magelang. Recently, I was doing a week trip to Magelang where I covered some temples. On the last day, I decided to check the mall and visited an Excelso store.

EXCELSO REVIEW

Excelso is an Indonesian coffee chain that is a competitor to Starbucks. Their beans are more accessible in supermarkets around the country. They have local and international coffee. When I first get myself into coffee, I choose their beans. I ended up liking some but overall, they weren’t really up to par. I was merely curious about their establishment. So, I went there and ordered a single origin of their robusta gold.

In excelso cafe everything costs double than the regular coffee shop/cafe. Be prepared to pay extra with some taxes too. In this place, all I saw was professionals and old people. I barely see people in their 20’s and from the conversation that I hear all around, they were mostly talking about government stuff and just normal chit chat. If I want to see millennials and people my age, Starbucks is where I go. It was quite interesting knowing the different market segments of the coffee shop.

Inside this cafe there are also beans and various meals from western menu to Indonesian menu. I chose to order carbonara pasta and I was pleased with it. The portion was good and the taste was alright. When it comes to the coffee, it was an espresso that I couldn’t quite handle. My poor stomach and heart were sending me signals and I only drank a few sips and decided to drink more water. But overall, the smell and taste is just like how I remembered their robusta gold to be, mocha-like with a hint of nut and cocoa flavor aftertaste. In comparison to how I do my coffee reviews these days, it’s day and night. Whenever I read that review, I am quite proud that now I learned so much more about coffee and the time I spent indulging in it has been worth it.

Anyway, after spending my time in that cafe, I am back home only to find myself brewing another cup of coffee.
