Sangmane Studio : A Cafe With South America Aesthetic

What would it feel like drinking coffee in a South American themed cafe?

I have never been there but this place I am about to show you, makes me feel like I was enjoying my time, somewhere in south america.

If you have seen my bagel pictures, chances are, you know I love bagels. There are only a few bagel places in town, and Sangmane studio sells the most delicious bagels. Other than bagels, they also sell coffee and cocktails with cuban themed. Today, I decided to visit their physical store after having to order them almost everyday for the last two months.

This place piqued my interest as I have seen how aesthetic it was. So, I grabbed my camera, my bag ,and decided to taste their coffee. It was raining outside, so everything sort of fit the ambience.

On my way there, I kept thinking about all the warm bagels that I could try and paired with a good coffee that will be enough to keep me up for the rest of the night. I also tried wearing an outfit that would match the ambience too.

Sangmane studio is located among a gated residential house. It’s not like on the road side and one has to rely on google maps to reach the place. I would call this place a hidden gem because their location yet the food and their beverages are really good. Anyhow, the exact location can be found on my pinmapple map as I will attach it there.

When I first got into the cafe, it was quite dim with vintage posters all around it and cross symbols decorations. From many movies with a South American setting that I watched, this place tries to match it with those old bar-like places in either Cuba or Mexico. Even they call some of the menu Papito and coffecita which are quite south american sounding.

The interior and the exterior

What I like to do when exploring a coffee shop or a cafe is also exploring the exterior and interior. This is part of the coffee experience that the cafe tries to make us feel which is why a cafe that has a strong theme often leaves a memorable mark than just a regular place. In this place, the barista and the servers are all wearing long vintage dresses. They sort of reminded me of people from the 80’s. As you can see below, one of them was answering the order and another was making the cocktail.

In their surroundings, you can see quite a bit of posters which is something that you would expect in the surrounding place. Their walls are decorated as if it was torn down and so were all the chairs. But don’t worry, they are all sturdy, only they were aesthetically made that way.

They offer 5 different types of settings with indoor and outdoor options that offer their own aesthetic. Do you want to feel like you’re dealing with narcos or do you feel like you’re that foreigner traveling to South America because of heartbreak or the kind of romantic ambience where it feels like you’re chatting with your mamacita? Whatever the ambience that you need, they have it. Here are some of the pictures from the places that I just described above.

The menu

DSC00314.JPG

To order in this place, you have to scan the qr code. I think they want to be an eco-friendly place which is great. But since they don’t really provide a dedicated website for their menu it was a hassle. I had to look up qr code online that would let me see all the menus while I just wanted a bagel. A warm nice bagel on a saturday evening and a cup of coffee to accompany it. It took like 10 minutes for me and while I was around, I saw a sign that basically looked like it was a cocktail selection. So, I asked the cashier and she said that it was. They were all cocktails made with balinese spirits(alcohol). Since I have never tried that, I ended up ordering one along with my pork bagel and a cup of their signature coffee that has the banana aftertaste.

Compared to the online price, the prices at this place were way cheaper. However, the bagel that I had wasn’t as warm as I had it whenever I ordered online. Though overall, my experience there was pleasant.

My Cuban themed mojito with balinese spirits turned out great and because I couldn’t finish it there, I requested a take away. So you see, while writing this, I am half-drunk. At the same time, I also had coffee which I think added more thrills into this evening. Perhaps my mood today is that I am that girl who just had a heartbreak and decided to travel the world and ended up in a coffee bar, somewhere in South America. Come to think of it, I think that’s actually a fun thing to do. Perhaps one day.

The coffee itself wasn’t something that I could praise but delicious enough more than many places I have been. I randomly chose a coffee with banana aftertaste since it was their signature. Uniquely, it was served in a glass bottle that I really wanted to take home. Overall, with the price that was as low as 1.5$, you could feel like you’re in either Cuba or even old times Mexico with delicious coffee and cocktails to accompany your night. And of course, they also serve south american cuisines and snacks that you can try. However, I have not tried them as my focus was on the coffee and the bagels.

Do I recommend this place?

Absolutely. This place is also great if you want to take pictures but their menu, especially the bagels are something you should not really miss. It tasted great and so was the coffee. I overall like the ambience if only the QR code problem didn’t ruin the mood of mine. I hope you enjoyed this and have fun checking out all the pictures. See you around!

All pictures are taken with SONY-H300 and retouched with adobe lightroom.

Muy bueno!

do you feel like you’re that foreigner traveling to South America because of heartbreak or the kind of romantic ambience where it feels like you’re chatting with your mamacita?

Have you seen a movie called Romancing the Stone. This place is perfectly suited for it. Arriba!

Hey Mac, these are such awesome photos. There's something about Latino Cafe's that just oozes the body and mind to happy mood. I remember visiting a Cuban Cafe in Jamaica, and they served the best desserts. That was the first place I ever had a Banana Split, and I was hooked. The music, the art, the vibe, everything about Latino themed cafes is just splendid!

That Mojito though 😋

I do love Bagels; I recall this cafe in the Netherlands that served a platter of Bagels with assorted toppings (like cold cuts and spreads) it was divine.

I am totally sold on this Sangmane Studio:)

Since you said banana split, I wonder if that's their specialty which is why the coffee was also with banana after taste! The music was certainly there too, they play some latino songs that just fits the ambience. And the mojito, it was godly, I love them and the sugar around the glasses, not sure how they'd stick them but that was awesome :D though it was super sticky each time I touched them. And yeah, this is another interesting finds of coffee shop and cafe! been a while since I do this and now I am happy to find such a cool place like that.
