the 2023 1 oz silver koi fish coin from Fiji is an awesome coin that the picture of the reverse doesn't do justice to how cool this coin looks.

In Japan koi are symbols of love and friendship, they also sybolize luck, prosperity, good fortune, and perseverance in the face of adversity. There are several different verieties of koi but they are all a type of carp bred for their decorative looks and colors. Koi are known for being hardy and having very long life with documented cases of them living over 200 years. Koi fish are sought out all over the World by both collectors and people who want to add to their backyard ponds for a more decorative and colorful look. They are one of the most expensive fish there is with pricess reaching up to 2 million dollars.

Fiji is an island country consisting of an archipelago of more than 330 islands in the South Pacific Ocean. I used to think that Fiji was part of Polynesia but it is actually part of Melanesia, they have a long interesting history that you can check out on their wiki page.

The obverse side features a frosted background with the coat of arms for Fiji in the center. The outer rim is encircled by an island style designed boarder. Encircling just inside the boarder the text on the top FIJI - 2023, on the bottome 1 DOLLAR, on the left 1 TROY OZ, on the right 999 FINE SILVER.

The Reverse side features a shiny background with two koi fish swimming in a circle counter clockwise with a lotus flower in the center. The outer rim has the same boarder as the obverse side.

My neighbors growing up had a small pond with Koi fish in it. It was so cool.

Yes, for sure! I am not a fan of colorized silver at all.
This coin has a much better look to it then the picture shows
and adding color would only dull the sparkle of it.

I had no idea they could live that long either.
I guess it all depends on how well they are cared
for and what their water condition is.

Yeah, the water condition is probably very important as well.. I remember that my uncle had a pond in the garden and he was super proud of how big these koi fish got.. He said they were very expensive so he had to cover the garden with a net so the birds wouldn't come to grab them, lol.

I love the detail on both sides of the coin. Yes it is so interesting about Fiji being part of Melanesia. I bet it is so beautiful there. I would love to visit these beautiful tropical islands some day. I would love to go to the Caribbean, Hawaiian islands, and Tahiti! Thanks Barb, it is a beautiful coin and I would love to visit these tropical islands also. I live in a tropical area but it doesn't have that same feal as relaxing in a tropical paradise.
