A cool hospitality πŸ₯°πŸ˜Ž

Deciding to leave my shell was a bit difficult, I would never visit anyone's home, I just didn't feel comfortable and also I always used to think of what we are even going to talk about when we are there.

I have some people I consider friends though they are not my age, some old women, some in their late 30s or 40s.

So this faithful day I decided to pay one a visit, well that was the second visit I did, first was with another friend which eased the tension for me to visit another!

Let me tell you about my last visit!

For the visit, I decided to go with my two sisters, they are my best companions 😍.
The lady directed us to her house through phone and it didn't take long till we found it.

We were very impressed with the way things were at her house, her compound is very close to nature, you can see fruits and vegetables all over the place

My sisters found companion with the guava fruit since they love guava so much, not me hehe
The lady we came to visit wants to show hospitality by all means so she feels she has to give us food to eat, unfortunately her cooking gas had finished and her husband wasn't home

She didn't stop talking about the meal she has to cook for us because in her mind she must show hospitality with a meal!
So we had a great idea for her, "let's make firewood and cook" πŸ˜‚. We were acting as if the house was already ours lol!

Well since she wanted to cook so bad, what could we have done?

She agreed to the firewood Idea but we let her know that we have to make the fire ourselves not her.
She wanted to give us rice to cook but then the ingredients were not complete so we gave her the option for plantain
She said you want to make porridge plantain or boiled? We said "no we would roast it" πŸ˜‚.

She smiled and asked if we can roast plantain we told her to watch and see hehe.
Honestly I couldn't roast plantain, I've never tried something like that, neither has my elder sister but she took it upon herself to roast it while I helped her out!

The roasting started this way πŸ‘‡

First we made the fire and cut out the size of plantain we wanted to roast

Next my sister placed the plantain on the fire to allow it roast. She was also there watching it carefully and turning it from sides to sides so it doesn't burn inside

While she was doing this, I was helping to make the sauce for the plantain

The sauce is made of:

  • Palm oil
  • Onions
  • Pepper
  • Scent leaves

First thing I did was to pluck some scent leaves she had in her compound
I took a plate and cut the onions in it, and added every other stuff to make it a sauce especially the oil.

After that the sauce was ready and I put it beside the roasted plantain to warm up.

We made ourselves very comfortable at the lady's house and she was also happy for the visit.
And when we were sure the plantain was done roasting, we opened it to confirm, and then peeled the rest of it and put in a plate.

We served ourselves the roasted plantain πŸ‘‡

We also sat down outside to eat and enjoy the meal, indeed it was delicious! My sister did very well roasting that stuff, I don't know if I could have done it myself

I couldn't have had anything else, this is way better than the rice we would have cooked haha. I enjoyed it so much πŸ˜‹
If this is how visiting people's house is then I want to visit forever πŸ˜‚πŸ™ƒ
I'm glad we rapped up everything, helped her wash the dishes, keep the place clean before we left, my sister also helped her to braid her hair.

Indeed she confirmed we were special visitors, it was as if we owned the house already hahaha.
She walked us out while leaving which is also another show of hospitality here and she expressed that would be glad to see us again
I also knew I'd be back again soon πŸ™ƒπŸ™ƒ

πŸ˜‹ I can't remember when I last tasted fire roasted plantains. I have to remember to try that when I have the opportunity around an open fire setting.
Thanks for sharing @madilyn02 🍌

That sounds like such a lovely visit! I like plantains, but have only had them fried in a skillet, not roasted. What a great idea! πŸ˜‹

Never knew plantain could be roasted this way, I mean we usually peel off the hard cover before roasting it but the this method looks more effective since it will prevent the consumable part of the plantain from burning. You definitely have a niche for food πŸ˜…
