Exterior architectural features of resorts in the tourist attraction city of Mirissa.
Hey my fellow Architecture lovers,
Greetings from Sri Lanka. I hope you are all healthy. Today morning I had to go to Mirissa city for some official work. It was an advantage in a sense that I got a chance to see the exterior architectural features of the attractive tourist resorts there. If I am traveling through a place I like to observe the unique architecture of the buildings apart from the natural beauty. The city of Mirissa is a beach town that is very popular among foreign tourists. Cruises from Mirissa to shallow seas are also available for whale watching. Tourist resorts built in various shapes can be seen here. In this content, I will present the architectural features that I found interesting in those tourist resorts.
I could see an attractive looking resort called Grand Hemalie Hotel. One building is designed in a circular shape and the other in a square shape. Many people are attracted to the circular building because of its diverse architectural features. Downstairs is like a luxury palace. The wall covering the front of the hotel is made of different shapes in gray. In front of it and inside the garden, ornamental plants and trees have been planted to add a touch to the environment. The sturdy satin wood railing on either side of the stairs leading from the lower floor to the upper floor gives a sheen with the brown color.
Under the circular shape of the upper slab supported by slightly taller concrete pillars, distinctive models are created. The use of concrete slabs instead of a roof shows signs of modern architecture. A white iron fence has been placed around the balcony area. Another circular shaped area is created inside it. Indeed, my first observation was an interesting one.
Next, I noticed a multi-storied tourist hotel built under the modern concept of concrete slab architecture instead of a roof. It is still under construction. This main building has been built in such a way that it is located on the opposite side of two buildings. Air conditioners on each floor were placed in the balcony areas. The square-shaped balcony area at the front was attractive with ornamental plants, but the side part was in an unsafe condition without a fence. There is clear evidence that fences will be built in the future.
An attractively shaped three storey resort which is still under construction. This will undoubtedly bring an attractive finish once the construction is complete. Recently constructed tourist lodges often exhibit new architectural features as modern building construction materials and equipment are used.
Next I could observe a tourist restaurant with very beautiful architectural features. The triangular shaped roof was covered with modern sheets. The entrance door is decorated with decorative plates on both sides. After the wooden steps of the entrance, one can see a mind-blowing design of an octopus. The windows above the entrance are made of wood to highlight a beautiful shape. Wooden sticks have been used to cover the windows, and through the small space between them, the caress of the natural breeze has been arranged. Beautiful trees have been planted in front of the restaurant and garden decoration has also been added.
The wall and gate of the Grade(A) tourist resort called Hotel Silan Mo have been created in an interesting shape. The wall is made by gluing pieces of stone cut into spectacular shapes. The space between them is shaped like a rhombus. Nearby was a place selling masks and various carvings.
There was another luxury resort built in the shape of a ship. Here too a slab was used instead of a roof. The shapes in the balcony area were quite attractive.
Although no specific architectural features can be seen in the Slow Days, there were two distinctive designs in the wall covering the balcony areas. On the first floor we could see the design of flower vines and on the upper floor the design of the horse-led chariot.
Next on my tour was a lodge with carved windows, doors and balconies that glowed brown. The lights were mounted on the wall itself. The doors and windows are made of wood and covered with transparent glass. White shaped curtains are used inside the room so as not to see outside.
The Club Mirissa Room Restaurant also had a building showing some old architectural features. Efforts have been made to give a natural look by planting a type of vine spreading from the upper floor to the lower floors. Its balcony slabs are arranged in a semi-circular shape in the front part.
Next, my attention was drawn to a building constructed using a different balcony shape. It looks a bit old fashioned. The ceiling is covered with wood and supported by concrete pillars.
Now look at the next building. Along with the rectangular building, the building was built almost in the shape of a mosque and has unique architectural features. The entrance door is old but made of strong wood. There are old wood carvings on that door. The shape of the windows is generally simple. I have no understanding of the signs above the second floor.
My eyes were drawn to a recently named star class hotel using the most modern architectural elements. The gray painted walls bring out the straight lines. The windows are fitted with blue tinted glass. There may be open windows and doors with balcony areas perhaps facing the sea.
A small lodge called Samaru with a wall inscribed with star-shaped markings. The shape of the roof here was one of the most attractive and was covered with asbestos sheets. The balcony designs were everywhere in the same pattern.
There are many small as well as large scale lodges in the city of Mirissa. Although the small lodges do not have distinctive architectural features, the settings made in the environment are special. Tourists also expect an environment that requires mental freedom.
A tourist resort with similar architecture and features to the Samaru resort that I had met earlier could be seen just outside Mirissa. The resort with a peaceful environment design is ideal for staying. The strong designs of the doors and windows are better suited to the resort. That's enough to write information about architectural designs of Mirissa city. I will come back with another interesting place.

Impressive architectural tour @madushanka. Resort communities are definitely one of my favorite neighborhoods to hang out! Because they are situated in close proximity to the coastline and beach, the prevailing atmosphere of the surrounding environments always tend to radiate that holiday vibe. At least for me that's how I'd feel. 😊
Can you please elaborate why this resort resembles a ship? Is it because of its cascading balconies and balustrades?
Observing the architecture of resort communities is really interesting to me as well. You referred to the tourist resort in the above photo as a ship because of the balustrades. But it does not consist of floors like a large ship. The shape of the star-class hotel, which is finished like the contents of a ship, from the shores of the Tangalle area of Sri Lanka towards the land side, also bears some resemblance to the shape of the above tourist resort.
Awesome! Thank you for the clarification. With a quick glance, it definitely looks like a ship though due to its white color, protruding floor slabs, and streamlined railings. Cheers! 😊
