Hi my loving Hivers,

Greetings from Sri Lanka. What's up guy? I hope everyting are fine with you. For a long time, I have not been able to submit content related to cultivation on this platform. As I was more busy in terms of duties, I did not get to pay attention to the cultivation of the garden. However, today being a Sunday, we got a chance to reach my mother-in-law's house. You may remember that I showed you about the crops in the garden earlier. But today we see some cultivars with slight differences. The special feature that can be seen in the cultivation in her garden is that no chemical fertilizers are used. Therefore, the family has the opportunity to get the necessary vegetables to prepare a fresh and healthy meal. She has the dedication needed to maintain those plantations well.

In a corner of the garden, there were plants with a type of yam called "gahala" by Sri Lankans. They spread like bushes. Plants with this type of tuber do not require special maintenance. After maturing tubers are laid in underground beds, small plants emerge. Then it gets the necessary water, air and light and grows by itself. These tubers are harvested underground. After timely help, the ground can be dug and these tubers can be harvested. It is possible to remove the skin of those potatoes and make them very tasty.

Green leaves are one of the most popular foods among Sri Lankans for lunch. Therefore, housewives prepare leaves in different ways. Leaves are used to prepare especially mallum and sambal. A type of leaf which Sri Lankans call gotukola has been grown in a container removed to the side of the mother-in-law's garden. In this removed pot, fertile soil has been filled and Gotukola plants have been planted as necessary. Accordingly, they have been spreading and growing like vines for some time. Gotukola is mostly prepared raw as sambal. If cooked and eaten, it should be boiled on low heat.

Here we could see another type of leaf which Sri Lankans call mukununwanna. My heart was filled with joy to see how they have spread continuously. This mukunuwanna which grows more in the environment where there is more water, is mostly seen in green color. But what was seen in the mother-in-law's garden was the purple mukunuwanna plant. But the green ones have more flavor and nutrients.

Some of the most expensive ginger plants in the market were also seen in this garden. Ginger is popular as a bushy spreading plant. These are used to flavor food as well as to enhance the taste of tea. Last time I came here, there were a few ginger bushes, but this time there were very few plants. However, if you can grow a few ginger plants in a garden, it will be of great value.

Pineapple is also a high priced fruit in today's market. These are grown by cutting off the top of the pineapple and planting them in the ground. A few pineapple bushes were seen in the mother-in-law's garden and some of them have also produced fruits. Once these are ripe they can be harvested. Pineapple is known as a fruit rich in vitamin C. Unfortunately, we could not ask for these fruits as they were not given. Pineapple in the market is not very good for health. But pineapples grown in a garden have more nutrients and freshness.

Spinach is a type of vegetable that spreads as trees and vines. My mother-in-law had grown some spinach plants using some disposable pots and polythene covers. Spinach, known as an iron-rich food, can be even more beneficial by growing it in your garden. Spinach tastes better when cooked than when eaten raw. But it should not be boiled too much as it can destroy the nutritional properties of spinach.

The vegetable known as okra is very popular among Sri Lankans. They can be prepared in a variety of delicious recipes. I got to see the harvest of these okra plants. But their leaves were eaten by worms. Therefore, if the necessary measures are not taken to protect these okra plants from worms and insects, it will not be possible to get a proper harvest.

Several types of leaves commonly used by Sri Lankans were seen in this garden. These leaves grow close together. Dry leaves that fall from trees can be used as fertilizer for the growth of these plants. By preparing them as compost, more crops can be harvested.

In my mother-in-law's garden, I saw a few plants of another type of vegetable called turkeyberry. These are small nuts and can be prepared very deliciously. If you are able to grow a few of these vegetable plants, which have a high price in the market, in your garden, you can get more yield and get relief from that in your economy.

A few plants of several other types of vegetables were seen in this garden. A few green chilli plants were also planted on the ground in their garden and it can be clearly seen how their leaves have been destroyed by insects. Therefore, getting a harvest from those plants is not very reliable.

Planting flowers and ornamental plants is a must to add beauty to any garden. In my mother-in-law's garden, I got to see some types of flowers and ornamental plants in the same way. Some expensive orchids could also be seen there. A special feature that I got to see was how ornamental plants were planted in pots and hung on a guava tree.

Mixed farming has been a thing for our people since the beginning of time. Good to see we eat almost the same things with a difference probably in variety.

Beautiful post.

Mixed farming has been around since the beginning of human civilization, but it is more important because it allows you to eat healthy and fresh vegetables.
