Hello my fellow Hivers,

20230226_131216.jpg

Greetings from Sri Lanka. Due to the torrential rain that fell in some parts of Sri Lanka during the last period, I had to temporarily stop my tourism and exploration activities. It is for the same reason that I have not been able to present content of particular importance on this blockchain for more than a week. However, yesterday morning, which was Sunday, I planned a long trip on Saturday. I hoped to complete my journey no matter what weather conditions came up. Fortunately, the whole day was full of strong sunshine. A few workers from the Tamil area told me that although there were constant rains in Deniyaya, which is located in a rain-fed area unlike where I live, it had not rained for more than two weeks. So through this content I hope to cover one part of Sinharaja Reserve Forest which has high value in terms of biodiversity.

There are several access roads to reach the Sinharaja Reserve Forest. But I reached it by passing through the Kurulugala entrance on the Deniya - Pallegama road. 6 months before the outbreak of the Covid epidemic, i.e. almost three and a half years ago, I reached the destination called Deniya Patna, which belongs to the Sinharaja region, along with my friends. Even before that, I entered the Sinharaja Reserve from the Galle-Neluwa main road through the Hiniduma road. In addition, there are access roads between the two areas of Kalawana and Rakwana in Sabaragamuwa province. It can be understood from experience and internet photos that the biodiversity characteristics to be seen in these four entrances are different.

As you walk up the Pallegama road entering the Sinharaja Reserve Forest, you can see beautifully shaped tea plantations on one side. Private plantation owners use these for tea industry and village women are engaged in plucking tea leaves. It is said that the Tamils came from South India for plantation work. Later they settle here and live in poverty in small rooms like houses. Because of their lack of education, it appears that their language comprehension is also low. Through every visit, I find out about the people's life so that we can get a better understanding.

If you come from Deniaya Pallegama road, you can go up through a small paved road. Although normal size buses can travel here, it is difficult to transfer two vehicles at the same time. Jeeps, motorcycles, three-wheelers can go near the Kurulugala Forest Conservation Office. But careful driving is important because if the vehicle overturns it can be a big accident. As it is located in a rain catchment area where it rains heavily, in some places the bitumen pieces have come off and the road has become muddy. No restoration is done to maintain the natural state in that way.

Considering the importance of this forest as a watershed, the biological importance and the enormous ecological system services it provides, on the recommendation of the Department of Forestry, UNESCO declared it as an International Man and Biosphere Reserve in 1978. In 1988, the national importance of this place was taken care of and named as a national heritage. A year later, in 1989, UNESCO declared it a World Heritage Site.

Going up the mountain, the path I took is wonderful with windings. A large number of small rocks could be seen among the tea straws. They gave a majestic look to the Sinharaja Reserve. Before entering the reserve, tea plantations could be seen in abundance, and trees of large size could also be seen here and there. A variety of plants and trees located in a wet zone can be found in the Sinharaja Reserve.

On the other side in the direction I was traveling, one can see the Patna region, a beautiful tourist destination popular among local tourists within Deniyaya Sinharaja. As I have heard from the villagers, these days tourists do not roam much in the Deniyaya Sinharaja region. I have seen many people sliding along the stream on this slippery rock in Patna area which flows like a waterfall. But not many people stayed there yesterday. I could hear how they were having fun in the small crowd.

I did not forget to take selfies while at the top of the mountain. I go to the mountainside to have an unforgettable experience in a safer way. Because we know the dangerous situation if we are careless without that.

20230226_130130.jpg

Even though I saw a mountain peak closest to the Sinharaja Reserve Forest, I have to pass this Sinharaja forest area to reach the top of the mountain in that area. I had no chance for that because I was traveling alone and had no preparation for it.

20230226_130014.jpg20230226_125921.jpg

At this time I could clearly see the Sinharaja forest from the sea. Special thanks must be given to God for giving me the opportunity to see the biodiversity of Sinharaja forest very clearly. The uniqueness seen in these canopied trees is very surprising. The role played by these different trees to the environment is very special. The natural environment with these trees, which looks like a mountain top, is not really seen on a mountain top. A clear rock layer is visible on the mountain tops. But in the Sinharaja forest there are five mountain ranges that are connected to each other and you can find more information about it on the internet. I do not have more details about it because I have not entered this reserve through Rakwana and Kalawana entrance roads located in Sabaragamuwa district.

I think you can tell by looking at these photos that Patna is above the most popular area among local tourists. Due to a very sudden plan, I could not join any of my friends in this mountain climb. Due to the bad weather, I was not able to join my family members in this trip.

The cessation of rain in the evenings for two consecutive weeks was really one of the greatest advantages of my trip. In particular, I must mention that I joined this trip alone. I have explained many reasons for this before. Joining a solo jungle tour is a truly unique experience. Being able to endure a particularly scary experience alone is an experience that not everyone gets.

The Sinharaja forest is the most biodiversity in the world with a number of internal water pools and streams. Survivable vendors, which are growing in the area, have a large number of species of animals, rising along the tall trees, a multi-rare snake species, most rare snake species, A large number of amphibians can be seen in Sinharaja forest, which live in the water pools. The Sinharaja forest is a priceless resource due to the high percentage of animals and plant species. For example, 18 out of the 20 endemic bird species are seen in Sinharaja, and 60% of Sinharaja trees are considered uncomfortable.

The communication towers of the most famous telecom company in Sri Lanka are located in the high mountain range in the Sinharaja forest. I am fortunate to be able to be close to one of those pillars of communication.

In fact, the Sinharaja Reserve is a forest that shines with beauty in terms of biodiversity. If you are a beautiful tourist in Sri Lanka and have real experience about it. If you have more information about the Sinharaja Reserve, you can come to Sri Lanka and visit this reserve by asking for more information about it online. I think my photos will give you more idea to visit the Sinharaja forest during your visit to Sri Lanka.

I got to see a small waterfall flowing very beautifully near the entrance of Kurulugala. If it is actually mentioned, it cannot be mentioned as a waterfall. Because most of the people refer to a waterfall as a stream of water flowing down with a big stream. According to my opinion, it is not wrong to refer to a stream of water flowing even from a small mountain as a waterfall.

20230226_132832.jpg

Since I was traveling alone, I was a little afraid to take selfies. The reason for that was because there were less tourists and I came alone. Sometimes if I had an accident, I felt a little scared because no one knew about it. However, I am very happy to be able to present this travel experience well.

Here I saw a unique landmark in Sri Lanka called Rakwana Range. The Rakwana mountain range is an interlocking mountain range known for its geological features and as a difficult place to climb. It is a mountain range running parallel to the mountain range of Sinharaja forest. When you see my photos, you will understand how high I am. No matter how many roadblocks I came in the middle of, I was able to be very lucky to be able to see Rakwana mountain range. Rakwana mountain range is located in Sabaragamuwa province. Therefore, I was also able to be very close to Sabaragamuwa Province.

20230226_133252.jpg

One of the most beautiful plants in terms of biodiversity, the bamboo can be clearly seen in the Sinharaja forest. It was a very lucky situation that I could see ferns even before entering Sinharaja. I do not need to mention the role of ferns in the existence of nature because you know more about it.

In the literal sense of the word, this solo journey is truly unique. Because there were some unique things that I was able to explore. I was very fortunate to be able to see several mountain ranges connected to each other and to see several types of plants and trees with exceptional biodiversity. It was a unique experience for me to see the border showing Sabaragamuwa and Southern Province in particular. As a person who has visited the Sabaragamuwa province of Sri Lanka before, I did not see any road recommendations adjacent to the southern province. Seeing Sabaragamuwa and the adjacent Sinharaja area bordering the Southern Province for the first time in my life was a great experience in my life. So let's meet again with the aim of sharing such a unique travel experience with you.

First of all, I would like to admire you that you are very brave traveling alone in the forest and on the mountains like these.... As you said, there are many spicies of animals, especially some snakes, you were so lucky not encounting any of them....

This is very unique trip, I absolutely agree with you. You have shown us very beautiful photos of the forest with various kinds of plants, wonderful mountains ranges, fascinating small waterfall, etc. The area looks relaxing and refreshing. Closing to nature like this is really excellent experience. Thanks so much for sharing. 😊
