Don't settle for average. Bring your best to the moment. Then, whether it fails or succeeds, at least you know you gave all you had.

-- Angela Bassett

About the Quote

When we succeed, we should be doing so with our best efforts. Sometimes our best efforts are when we're running on all cylinders. Sometimes our best effort is within the context of adversity ranging from a hangover to severe flu to loss of a loved one. Either way, success is best when we gave it our best.

Even if we fail, we can go to bed with a clear conscience in the knowledge that we gave it all we had; it just wasn't enough. That happens, and that's just part of life.

What isn't acceptable is giving average effort to whatever we do. When we succeed using average effort, the success feels cheapend. If we fail while giving average effort, we'll be second-guessing ourselves as to whether giving better effort would have been the difference maker for us. That happens, too, and many regrets are due to the average effort we gave.
