The Curve (Review) (ESP/ENG)
Hello, cinephile friends, today I bring you something different, this is a short film that despite lasting only ten minutes managed to trigger a lot of feelings in me, especially anguish and anxiety, maybe it even seems exaggerated but I can assure you that I am not lying when I say that I had to stop the film several times to clear my mind a little, partly because the performance of the Australian Laura Jane Turner is extremely good, and partly because when a film manages to capture my attention, I tend to live with total intensity the situations of the characters.
Hola, amigos cinéfilos, hoy traigo algo distinto, se trata de un cortometraje que a pesar de durar solo diez minutos logró desencadenar un montón de sensaciones en mí, sobre todo angustia y agobio, quizá hasta les parezca exagerado pero les puedo asegurar que no miento cuando les digo que tuve que detener la película varias veces para poder despejar un poco mi mente, en parte porque la actuación de la australiana Laura Jane Turner es extremadamente buena, y en parte porque cuando una película logra capturar mi atención, yo suelo vivir con total intensidad las situaciones de los personajes.
Overview/Resumen
First we see a girl, we don't know her name, we don't know how she got there or what happened to her, we only know that she is unconscious while we see some alternating images of the waves of the sea, which become more and more violent as the girl wakes up, soon both she and the spectators discover the terrible situation she is in, she is injured, with blood on her hands, she seems to have a broken leg, and to make matters worse she is located in a curved structure that leads to a dark and unknown abyss, obviously the instinct of the woman is to retreat and try to get away from the abyss, but she soon discovers that she has to take care of her movements very well because any false step could throw her into nothingness, we also discover that the structure itself seems to hurt her, so she will do everything possible to get out of there, but soon it begins to rain heavily and the situation is very serious. .. well, it seems to get worse.
En primer lugar vemos a una chica, no sabemos su nombre, no sabemos como llegó allí ni tampoco que le pasó, solo sabemos que está inconsciente mientras vemos algunas imágenes alternadas de las olas del mar, las cuales se van haciendo cada vez más violentas a medida que la chica va despertando, pronto tanto ella como los espectadores descubren la terrible situación en la que se encuentra, está herida, con sangre en las manos, parece tener una pierna rota, y para colmo de males está ubicada en una estructura curva bastante pronunciada que conduce a un abismo oscuro y desconocido, evidentemente el instinto de la mujer es retroceder e intentar alejarse del abismo, pero pronto descubre que tiene que cuidar muy bien sus movimientos pues cualquier paso en falso podría arrojarla hacia la nada, también descubrimos que la propia estructura en si parece lastimarla, por lo que ella hará hasta lo imposible por salir de allí, pero pronto comienza a llover copiosamente y la situación... bueno, parece empeorar.

Friends, I don't leave you a trailer as I couldn't find one because the film is a short film that lasts only ten minutes, without dialogue and without much context, but it still shows us a very terrible panorama that will help us to activate our imagination and to develop thousands of hypotheses.
Amigos no les dejo un trailer ya que no encontré ninguno porque el film es un corto que dura solo diez minutos, sin diálogo y sin mucho contexto, pero que aún así nos muestra un panorama muy terrible que nos ayudará a activar la imaginación y a desarrollar miles de hipótesis.
One of the aspects that, as I said in the introduction, I found quite disturbing (in the good sense of the word) is Laura Jane Turner's performance, she, despite not having any dialogue, knows how to transmit all the negative emotions of her character through gestures and above all her agitated breathing, Her expressions of pain and terror are quite authentic, this combined with her breathing, the screams of frustration, the little context we have and of course the uncertainty that generates the fact that she could fall into the abyss at any moment, generates an impressive sense of overwhelm, it is impossible not to empathise with her.
Uno de los aspectos que como les dije en la introducción, me resultó bastante inquietante (en el buen sentido de la palabra) es la actuación de Laura Jane Turner, ella, a pesar de no tener ningún diálogo sabe transmitir todas las emociones negativas de su personaje a través de gestos y sobre todo su respiración agitada, sus expresiones de dolor y de terror se ven bastante auténticas, esto aunado a su respiración, a los gritos de frustración, al poco contexto que tenemos y desde luego a la incertidumbre que nos genera el hecho de que ella pueda caer al vacío en cualquier momento, genera una sensación de agobio impresionante, es imposible no sentir empatía con ella.
The director of the short film, Tim Egan, said that he wants each viewer to give the film the interpretation they want, as well as the ending of their preference, as the film leaves us with a very disconcerting and even frustrating ending (it depends precisely on the interpretation you decide to give it) I personally believe that this film could have many interpretations, but one of them is life itself, sometimes we are in difficult situations, either with a partner we love but it hurts us in some way, or with a job that, despite receiving a good salary, is destroying our peace of mind and our tranquility, then we cling to that even if it hurts us, just as the girl in the film clung to the very structure that seemed to lacerate her, because not to do so would lead her to the abyss, sometimes she clung to slight hopes like the sky momentarily cleared of clouds, a hope that could be false and that could only lead her to have illusions that would also lead her to the abyss.
El director del cortometraje, Tim Egan, dijo que desea que cada espectador le de la interpretación que desee al film, así como el final de su preferencia, ya que la película nos deja con un final bastante desconcertante e incluso frustrante (precisamente depende de la interpretación que decidas darle) Yo personalmente creo que esta película podría tener muchas interpretaciones, pero una de ellas es la vida misma, a veces estamos en situaciones difíciles, bien sea con una pareja a la que amamos pero nos hace daño de alguna manera, o con un trabajo que, a pesar de recibir un buen sueldo, está destruyendo nuestra paz mental y nuestra tranquilidad, entonces nos aferramos a eso aunque nos haga daño, tal como la chica de la película se aferraba a la propia estructura que parecía lacerarla, porque no hacerlo la llevaría al abismo, a veces se aferraba a leves esperanzas como el cielo despejado de nubes momentáneamente, una esperanza que podría ser falsa y que solo podría conducirla a tener ilusiones que de igual manera la llevarían al abismo.
I also interpret it as the representation of our own fears that don't let us move forward, fear of the unknown (the dark abyss) and everything else, i.e. the wounds, the falling rain, the fear, in short, all that, are just tests to strengthen you and show you what you're made of. Yet you could also take all this as the girl's imagination, maybe her situation is not as bad as she thinks, maybe her wounds are not so serious, but her way of seeing life makes it seem that everything is harder than it really is, I say this because there is a moment in which she notices that in front of her there is another curved structure that also has blood on it, as if another person had been there, in the same situation as her, who ended up falling into the abyss, this could represent the times when people let themselves be carried away by other people's experiences, filling themselves with fears that do not belong to them, to such an extent that they can no longer move forward for fear of ending up like those other people.
También la interpreto como la representación de nuestros propios miedos que no nos dejan avanzar, miedo a lo desconocido (el abismo oscuro) y todo lo demás, es decir, las heridas, la lluvia que cae, el miedo, en fin, todo eso, son solo pruebas para fortalecerte y demostrarte de que estás hecho. Aún así también podrías tomar todo esto como la imaginación de la chica, quizá su situación no sea tan mala como ella piensa, tal vez sus heridas no sean tan graves, pero su forma de ver la vida le hace parecer que todo es más duro de lo que en realidad es, lo digo porque hay un momento en el que ella se percata de que frente a ella hay otra estructura curva que también tiene sangre, como si allí hubiese estado otra persona, en la misma situación que ella, que terminó cayendo al abismo, esto podría representar las veces que las personas se dejan llevar por experiencias ajenas, llenándose de miedos que no les pertenecen, hasta tal punto en el que no pueden avanzar más por temor a terminar como esas otras personas.

I don't think I've ever seen a short film and I find it quite interesting because from what I see. It remains to. Imagination part of the story and you have described it very well.
Realizar cortometrajes me parece un trabajo complicado, desarrollar una historia en tan solo 10 minutos, pero que además, cause todos efectos que mencionas en el espectador, sin dudas algo a tener el cuenta, me deportó la curiosidad, no lo conocía, gracias por compartir tu opinión.
Sí, la verdad es que quedé impactada con ese cortometraje, y a todo eso hay que sumarle el hecho de que no tiene diálogos y aún así la actriz demuestra una habilidad sorprendente para transmitir sus emociones.

Wow, te confieso que cuando vi el título pensé que se trataba de una peli donde una chica queda atrapada en su auto después de sufrir accidente. Creo que este cortometraje es muy emocionante y deseas llegar al final para saber en que termina todo.
