Good question, I'd say to the tattered-looking lad.

I could never understand why so many religious people believe that bliss and glory and abundance will come only in the afterlife. Still can't.

Even I still can't understand why these notions have ensured for centuries. At least, nobody has been to the afterlife. But we have now and know now and let us prosper now. Onwards!
