What's up Splinter Warriors!!

First of all, I am very exhilarated to see @bdcommunity has organised a writing competition exclusively on Splinterlands and I want to thank our dear @azircon dada along with the entire team BDCommunity for hosting such an innovative contest for us all the Splinterlands lovers. It is indeed a great chance for gamers to showcase their skills and also to learn different line-ups and strategies from others.

Splinterland Quidditch:

Splinterlands University of magic has recently been reopened in Gloridax after the long summer vacation and the annual sports day is also nearby. From the mighty floating land mass Solaki to the burning lands, every monster and fairy in Splinterlabds was eagerly waiting for this day as from this year the high council of the wizards, who administrate the University has announced that they will start Quidditch tournament in from this year.

Now, don't confuse this Quidditch with any other game. In here, powerful warriors from all around the Splinterlands gather here to fight for glory. Under certain rulesets (decided at the time of the game by the High council), two teams fight each other and the winner gets qualified for the next round. Though the lucrative prizes are enough to convince even the furious chickens, it's mostly about the glory and respects that the warriors care.

Ruleset: Win On a 12 Mana Battle Using Any Splinter.

Dressed with custom armour and Talvaar, When I entered the giant national arena with my monsters, thousands of Organs, Clarinets and Trumpets got played together synchronously. The stadium was so big that I couldn't see my opponent on the other side of the battlefield. But I know soon after the Royal song, the stats will get displayed on the giant screen.

a 12 mana match??

After the royal song, when the giant screen got flashed with the match stats I got stunned for a moment. The Elders has decided a 12 mana ruleset for this match! I know I must have to win this match, but its the smallest mana limit allowed in the splinterlands game and often players get confused about what to choose for their line ups.

In the past, I have played a decent number of 12 mana games in ranked matches. I am not very confident in this particular ruleset as I am with medium and large mana matches. Whenever I see this low mana cap,

Normally, I either go with 4 - 6 small mana monsters or play with 1 - 2 gigantic monsters, whatever favours the other rulesets. Let us now focus on the other parameters to carefully choose a worthy line-up that can outrun the enemy strategy.

  • Ruleset So, It was an Even Stevens ( Only monsters with even mana cost will be allowed in this battle ).

  • Mana count This match holds the lowest 12 mana cap!

  • Summoners This battle supports Fire, Water, Earth, Death and Dragon summoners.

At this much mana cap, as I said above, you can only go with either 4-6 small monsters. combination of 1, 2, 3 and 4 mana cost monsters may help you to fil all the 6 places of the line-up, but not always those mini monsters can ensure your win.

On the other hand, we can also use 1 or 2 giants capable of doing high damage and can take monsters with 1 blow. But in this case, we have to be careful about their defence abilities so that they won't get killed quickly.

In the limited time, it's hard to think many alternative strategies so for this one I blindly went for the Kron deck. Though I have a max kron the Undying, I only have a level 5 Xander Foxwood (the 2 mana earth summoner with no buffs) so I will get a level 3 Kron in the battlefield. But I will take the risk, let's see what is written in my fate.

Line-Up

image.png

FURIOUS CHICKEN

I chose FURIOUS CHICKEN at the front place mainly because of 2 things. First to save my Kron from 1 attack from the enemies and secondly, it's free to use for its 0 mana cost. I have only a level 3 Furious Chicken without the Rage ability. But that's not really needed in this match.

image.png

KRON THE UNDYING

I chose KRON THE UNDYING in the second place and this is my main trump card for this battle. I mainly used this card because soon after the chicken gets killed, it will gain increased stats. I have an active level 3 for this match and it possesses 3 magic attack at 2 speed and 11 health. It also possesses 3 abilities as stated below.

  • Heal - When damaged, can Heal a portion of its health every round.

  • Divine Shield - With this ability, the monster will completely ignore the first attack on it.

  • Last Stand - With this ability, the monster gains increased stats when its the only living monster in the team.

First, let us follow the opponent's line-up...

My opponent @gogoo used Dragon summoner Selenia against me.

He only used one monster, a max Sea Monster against me. Sea monster, at max level, can become an immortal entity and I have experienced that first-hand many times. At max level, it carries 5 melee attack power with 3 speed and 12 health. It also possesses 2 abilities Heal and Thrones within it so on one hand this monster will heal itself every round and on the other, it will bring extra damage on my melee monsters.

My Kron, at level 3 also possesses Heal ability so it may stand longer by doing self-healing every round. But the most important factor here is how his Last Stand ability will work.

So, let us now decode the battle round wise.

  • At the first round, The Sea Monster attacks first because he is the monster with the highest speed in either side. With one blow, it killed my Furious Chicken.

image.png

But that was exactly what I wanted! The sea monster may have killed down my chicken but that saved my Kron from getting hit in the first round. Now that the Kron is the only monster left in my team, it will activate the Last Stand ability!

image.png

As you can see in the screenshot above, after activating the Last Stand Ability, the Kron is now having an increased stat in all aspect. He is now carrying 5 magic attack at 3 Speed and 17 health! Also, keep in mind that his Divine Shield is not being used yet, which will save him from another hit.

The Kron has launched a devastating magic attack upon the Sea Monster causing him 5 damage. The Sea Monster is now only left with 7 health.

  • At the begin of second round, both the Sea Monster and the Kron is having 3 speed, but luckily my Kron launches its attack first causing again 5 damage to the sea monster.

image.png

The Sea monster had only 2 health remaining, but he healed up himself and got 6 health. Next, he launches a fierce melee attack on my Kron and broke down the Divine Shield Ability. But my Kron's health stayed unaffected.

  • At the begin of the third round, my kron again launched a deadly attack on the Sea Monster, causing it 5 damage. The monster now only left with 1 health.

image.png

But the evil monster again healed up itself back to 5 health and then launched a fierce melee attack on my Kron, causing it 5 damage. My Kron has only 12 health remain at the end of round 3,

  • At the begin of the fourth round, my Kron was left with 12 health and the Sea monster with only 5 health.

image.png

Thou both of them were carrying 3 speed , again my Kron got the first chance. First, it healed itself back to full with the healing ability and then launched the final blow and killed the Sea Monster.

Well my plan got successful and I defeat the opponent in the 12 mana mighty macth! All the trumpets and drums are rolling again and the winner name is screening on the stadium screen.

12 mana games can be very unpredictable but the main strategy is to choose either a group of small monsters which will together make a strong powerful deck or you can go with those fierce mega Titans.

For this particular match, both of us players went for the big titans. He chose Sea Monster whereas I went for Kron the Undying. Kron is the latest addition to my SL collection and he is my first choice (if available) for especially 12 mana matches.

I also fight with Selenia when Kron is not available/not favourable. With Selenia, I generally chose Water deck because it has a variety of 2, 3 and 4 mana monsters to choose from. Spineback Turtle with Crustacean King, Pirate Archer and the furious chicken can also make a great deck in the 12 mana match so you can also try that. Earth cards are also capable of making good 12 mana decks with Cocatrice, Earth Elemental, Wood Nymph, Swamp Thing, Elvin Mystic, Brownie, Ooze and also other small mana cards.

For 12 mana games, 2 mana summoners also have an important role. Just like in this one. without the Earth summoner Xander Foxwood, I could not use Kron in my deck. So if you have those 2 mana summoners, the will somehow increase your chance of winning in the battlefield.
