Splinterlands Thornmaw Berserker | An Armored Melee Beast

Hello my fellow Splinterlands Warriors,
Welcome back to another awesome Splinterlands post, and I hope all of you are doing absolutely great in your lives and enjoying an energetic weekend with your family and friends. Now, if you are one of those who are actively engaging in this strategic CARD-based game, then I hope you are actively playing in this ongoing ranked and frontier season as well and have already set a goal for yourself. If we take a quick peek at the ongoing season timer, the current ranked season still has around 10 days and 1 hour remaining, so there is still plenty of time for us all to continue fighting and collecting rewards while chasing our own season goals. Whether it is to reach a particular league tier or fight hard and grab a seat in the top champion leaderboard, there is still enough time to keep pushing. With more than a week still left in the season, I hope you are experimenting with different cards and strategies and lineups and try to push your trophy count a little higher with every playing session.

Now, talking about my own progress in the Frontier mode, I am currently battling in the highest Gold I league as usual, and my current trophy count is 3,000. My target for this season is to reach 4,200 trophies and then try to make a push toward the leaderboard. So, I still have quite a lot of climbing to do, but with more than 10 days remaining, hopefully I can reach my goal in time. Looking at the weekly raffle progress, I currently have 39 raffle entries collected. There is around 1 day and 6 hours remaining before the raffle ends, and my target is somewhere around 48 entries. So, I still need to collect quite a few more entries in a short amount of time.

Today's Frontier Daily Wheel marks my 125th consecutive streak day, which is another nice milestone, and I received 5 Frontier Battle Energy from the wheel. My current total Sparks balance stands at 17,492. Hopefully, I can continue maintaining this daily streak and collect some more useful Frontier rewards in the upcoming days.

Apart from that, I only managed to open 3 Foundation Packs this time, as I could not play yesterday. From these three packs, I got 4 Rare cards, including 1 Archon, while the remaining cards were Common cards. It was a smaller pack opening compared to some of my previous ones, but getting an Archon among the Rare cards was still a nice little bonus.

Thornmaw Berserker
Now moving on to today's featured monster, let us take a closer look at another interesting monster from the newest Reward card set. As you have already seen in the title above, today we will be discussing Thornmaw Berserker. So, if you are interested in knowing more about this armored Melee beast, then let's take a deep dive without any further ado.
Thornmaw Berserker is a monster type card that comes from the Death element and belongs to the Avian bloodline. It is a Common type card, so you would require a total of 400 CC cards to upgrade it to max level. It costs 7 mana to deploy and uses Melee attacks, making it a suitable choice for medium to high mana battles where you have enough room to include a durable frontline monster. At maximum level, this monster possesses four different abilities, giving it a powerful combination of defensive statistics, anti-resurrection utility, Magic defense, Health growth, and flexible attacking capability. Let us now take a closer look at its stats and abilities across different leagues.

BRONZE
At Level 3, Thornmaw Berserker possesses 2 Melee attack, 4 Speed, 3 Armor, and 7 Health. Even at this level, it already comes with a useful ability called FINAL REST.

FINAL REST – Once per game, blocks enemy Rebirth, Resurrect, Resurgence, and Soul Siphon effects unless that unit possesses Last Word.
SILVER
At Level 5, Thornmaw Berserker maintains 2 Melee attack and 4 Speed while its Health increases to 8 and its Armor remains at 3. At this stage, it unlocks another very useful ability called MAGIC REFLECT.

MAGIC REFLECT – Returns 50% of the incoming Magic damage, rounded up, back to the attacker whenever hit by a Magic attack.
GOLD
At Level 8, Thornmaw Berserker improves to 3 Melee attack, 4 Speed, 4 Armor, and 8 Health. At this stage, it unlocks another powerful ability called LIFE LEECH.

LIFE LEECH – Increases Health and maximum Health by 50% of the damage dealt, rounded up.
DIAMOND / CHAMPION
At Level 10, Thornmaw Berserker reaches its maximum form with 3 Melee attack, 4 Speed, 4 Armor, and 9 Health. At maximum level, it unlocks its final ability called CHARGE.

CHARGE – Allows this monster to use Melee attacks from any position.
I think Thornmaw Berserker is a hardcore defensive attacker for a 7 mana cost, especially because of the combination of its Health, Armor, Speed, and Melee attack power. First of all, this monster really looks like a beast at maximum level, it has 4 Armor and 9 Health along with 4 Speed and 3 Melee attack. That gives it a solid mixture of durability and offensive power, allowing it to survive several attacks while continuing to deal damage. Then we have Final Rest, which provides a very specific but potentially valuable advantage. Once per game, it can block enemy Rebirth, Resurrect, Resurgence, and Soul Siphon effects, unless the affected unit possesses Last Word. The Magic Reflect ability is another major reason why I like this monster. Against Magic-heavy lineups, Thornmaw Berserker can return 50% of the incoming Magic damage back to the attacker, rounded up. This means the opponent's Magic attackers are not simply damaging your monster without consequences. Then comes Life Leech, which I think is one of the most interesting abilities on this card. Every time Thornmaw Berserker deals damage, it can increase both its current Health and maximum Health by 50% of the damage dealt, rounded up. Because of this, you should try to keep this monster alive for as long as possible. The longer it stays on the battlefield and keeps landing successful attacks, the more Health it can potentially build up. Finally, we have Charge, the ability that gives this monster a completely different level of flexibility. With Charge, Thornmaw Berserker can use its Melee attack from any position. This is somewhat similar to having the freedom of a battle with the Melee Mayhem ruleset, because the monster does not need to remain in the first position to attack. You can therefore keep it in a rear position if the situation calls for it while still allowing it to attack. This can also give it more time to utilise Life Leech and increase its Health before it eventually comes under heavy pressure from the enemy.
Overall, I think Thornmaw Berserker is a very useful armored Melee monster that offers much more than just raw defensive statistics. It can counter resurrection abilities through Final Rest, punish Magic attackers with Magic Reflect, grow stronger through Life Leech, and attack from any position with Charge. If you can keep this monster alive and allow it to deal damage consistently, its Life Leech ability can become increasingly valuable as the battle continues. So, if you are looking for a durable Melee monster that can also provide some interesting utility and flexibility, Thornmaw Berserker is definitely a card worth experimenting with.
