Close-ups of some trees trunks in my yard. Each having their own texture and design.

Sweet Birch above. The light green blotches are unique organisms called Lichens. They are actually composed of two organisms, a fungus that grows on the tree and collects moisture. An algae then joins the fungus to obtain the moisture it collects, in return the algae feed the fungus with the food it makes from the energy of the sun. A perfect Symbiotic relationship...

*Sweet Gum above. Has a corky rough bark. Although growing near the Sweet Birch, shows no lichen.

Tulip tree, also known as Poplar or Yellow Poplar

All three trees are about 40 yrs old. The Birch and Gum I grew from seed while the Tulip was a tiny sapling I transplanted from Virginia.
