Domingo de Ramos || Palm Sunday [ESP/ENG]

El día de ayer, se dió inicio a la celebración de la Semana Santa, con el Domingo de Ramos, una festividad religiosa del cristianismo donde se recuerda la entrada de Jesús a la ciudad de Jerusalén, días antes de su muerte.

En esta fecha, se acostumbra a bendecir los ramos de palma que los feligreses llevan al templo, o que este les proporciona, y los cuales representan las palmas que los habitantes de aquella antigua ciudad, esparcieron sobre las calles al momento de su llegada.

En la iglesia donde acostumbro asistir a misa los domingos, el párroco guió a los asistentes hasta una plaza ubicada en las cercanías, donde bendijo los ramos, que en este caso no eran de palma sinó de olivo, y luego de concluir nos dirijimos nuevamente hasta el interior del templo, donde continuó con el servicio religioso correspondiente a la fecha, en la que se representó la lectura del Evangelio como una interpretación teatral.

La celebración de la Semana Santa posee una gran importancia dentro del cristianismo en sus diferentes denominaciones, porque representa la pasión, muerte y resurrección de Jesús, por lo que en gran parte de América Latina y algunos países europeos, acostumbran dar varios días de asueto, lo que aprovechan las personas para asistir a los actos religiosos, o simplementan, viajan o permanecen en sus casas descansando.

Yesterday, the celebration of Holy Week began with Palm Sunday, a Christian religious festivity that commemorates the entrance of Jesus to the city of Jerusalem, days before his death.

On this date, it is customary to bless the palm branches that the parishioners bring to the temple, or that it provides them, and which represent the palms that the inhabitants of that ancient city, scattered on the streets at the time of his arrival.

In the church where I usually attend mass on Sundays, the parish priest led the attendees to a square located nearby, where he blessed the branches, which in this case were not of palm but of olive tree, and after concluding we went back to the interior of the temple, where he continued with the religious service corresponding to the date, in which the reading of the Gospel was represented as a theatrical interpretation.

The celebration of Holy Week has a great importance within Christianity in its different denominations, because it represents the passion, death and resurrection of Jesus, so that in much of Latin America and some European countries, used to give several days off, which people take advantage of to attend religious events, or simply travel or stay at home resting.
