PhotoFeed Contest - Cityscape Photography Round 52: The Land of the Beloved Sun [ENG/ESP]

“The sun does not shine for a few trees and flowers, but for the wide world's joy.”

Henry Ward Beecher

The Land of the Beloved Sun

Just as Japan has been known for hundreds of years as the Land of the Rising Sun, Maracaibo is known by the nickname of the Land of the Beloved Sun, in reference to the title of the novel that Venezuelan writer and journalist José Rafael Pocaterra dedicated to this city located in the western part of the country.

During part of 2014, I was partially residing for work reasons in Maracaibo, capital of the state of Zulia and the second most populated city in Venezuela after Caracas, capital of the Republic.

The city is characterized by its high temperatures, which together with the prevailing humidity in the environment for being located on the shores of the largest lake in South America, makes the air sometimes becomes unbreathable. However, during my time there, in addition to getting to know its most emblematic buildings and corners, I was able to see the hospitality and warmth of its inhabitants, very similar to its hot climate.
