Devotion is a manifestation of deep respect and admiration inspired by the dignity, virtue or merits of a person, institution or cause.

It can be considered as a synonym of love, fervor and veneration when linked to religious beliefs, or an experience, usually of a mystical nature.

Yesterday, the 166th Visit to the city of Barquisimeto of the image of the Divine Shepherdess (Divina Pastora), a Marian invocation originated in Seville at the beginning of the 18th century, formally culminated with its return to its sanctuary in the neighboring town of Santa Rosa.

This visit begins every January 14th with a multitudinous procession considered the third largest in the world, after the Virgin of Guadalupe in Mexico, and the Virgin of Fatima in Portugal; and ends the Saturday before Palm Sunday, regardless of the date of the year.

During that time, the image travels through all the Catholic parishes of the city, where it remains 1 or 2 days depending on the itinerary and the time available, before returning to its home in the Saint Rose of Lima Church, where it will remain exposed to the parishioners in a niche located behind the Altar of the temple until next year.

This year, as in all previous years, the return of the Virgin is accompanied by a few thousand people, a number considerably lower than the almost 3 million parishioners who participate in the main procession on January 14.

As I have described in previous posts, I process the original photographs using the editing tools offered in their free versions by the applications Picsart and Snapseed.

La devoción es una manifestación de profundo respeto y admiración inspirado por la dignidad, la virtud o los méritos de una persona, institución o una causa.

Puede ser considerada como un sinónimo del amor, el fervor y la veneración cuando se encuentran vinculados con las creencias religiosas, o una experiencia, por lo general, de naturaleza mística.

El día de ayer, culminó formalmente la Visita 166 a la ciudad de Barquisimeto de la imagen de la Divina Pastora, una advocación de carácter Mariano originada en Sevilla a principios del Siglo XVIII; con su regreso a su santuario en la vecina población de Santa Rosa.

Esta visita se inicia cada 14 de Enero con una multitudinaria procesión considerada como la tercera más grande del mundo, luego de la Virgen de Guadalupe en México, y la de la Virgen de Fátima en Portugal; y finaliza el Sábado anterior al Domingo de Ramos, independientemente en que fecha del año suceda esto.

Durante ese tiempo, la imagen recorre todas las parroquias católicas de la ciudad, donde permanece 1 o 2 días dependiendo del itinerario y del tiempo disponible, antes de regresar a su hogar en la Iglesia Santa Rosa de Lima, donde permanecerá expuesta a los feligreses en un nicho ubicado detrás del Altar del templo hasta el próximo año.

Este año, al igual que todos los años anteriores, el regreso de la Virgen es acompañado por algunas miles de personas, una cantidad considerablemente inferior a los casi 3 millones de feligreses que participan en la procesión principal del 14 de Enero.
