TBT es el acrónimo de la expresión Throw Back Thursday, que traducido al español significa, palabras más o palabras menos, "Jueves de Regreso al Pasado", y no es mas que una iniciativa donde los usuarios de las diferentes Redes Sociales, comparten fotografías, imágenes o momentos del pasado, pero únicamente los días Jueves y haciendo uso de la etiqueta #tbt.

En años anteriores y en diversas oportunidades he visitado el Museo de Barquisimeto, situado en el casco central de la ciudad a corta distancia de la Plaza Bolívar y de los edificios que sirven como sedes de la alcadía, de los tribunales regionales y de otros entes gubernamentales.

La edificación del museo posee una arquitectura neoclasicista y fue construida sobre varios lotes de terrenos donde estaban ubicados el antiguo Hospital San Lázaro y la cárcel, siendo inaugurada en 1918 como una institución de salud bajo el nombre de Hospital de la Caridad, luego de tres décadas de trabajos.

Posteriormente, en el año 1924 se inaugura la Capilla San Miguel, ubicada en el patio interior de la casona, para que los pacientes y sus familiares acudieran a orar e implorar la ayuda divina, o al menos, encontrar el consuelo necesario.

Luego, en homenaje a su fundador, Antonio María Pineda, el concejo municipal de aquel entonces le coloca su nombre al hospital, el cual funcionó en esta ubicación hasta 1954, cuando el hospital es trasladado a su actual ubicación al final de la Avenida Vargas, dentro de las actividades programadas por la celebración del Cuatricentenario de la ciudad.

No fue sinó hasta principios de la década de los 80, que la vieja casona que había permanecido muchos años abandonada sería restaurada para destinarla como sede del Museo de Barquisimeto, uso que aún conserva en la actualidad.

Desde sus inicios, esta institución ha tenido la misión de preservar y difundir la memoria histórica y cultural local, además de promover oficios que ayuden a potenciar la creatividad en la comunidad barquisimetana.

Lamentablemente, y como ha sido usual en los tiempos mas recientes con todo el patrimonio edificado de la ciudad, observé graves problemas de mantenimiento, al menos en las ocasiones que he acudido, lo que pone en riesgo, tanto las obras allí exhibidas o almacenadas, así como la propia razón de ser de esta institución.

In previous years and on several occasions I have visited the Museum of Barquisimeto, located in the central area of the city a short distance from the Plaza Bolivar and the buildings that serve as headquarters of the mayor's office, the regional courts and other government agencies.

The museum building has a neoclassicist architecture and was built on several lots of land where the old St. Lazarus Hospital and the jail were located, being inaugurated in 1918 as a health institution under the name of Charity Hospital (Hospital de la Caridad), after three decades of work.

Later, in 1924, the St. Michael Chapel was inaugurated, located in the inner courtyard of the mansion, for patients and their families to pray and implore divine help, or at least, to find the necessary comfort.

Then, in homage to its founder, Antonio María Pineda, the municipal council of that time named the hospital after him, which functioned in this location until 1954, when the hospital was moved to its current location at the end of Vargas Avenue, as part of the activities programmed for the celebration of the city's 400th anniversary.

It was not until the early 80's that the old mansion, which had been abandoned for many years, was restored to be used as the headquarters of the Museum of Barquisimeto, a use it still retains today.

Since its beginnings, this institution has had the mission of preserving and disseminating the local historical and cultural memory, as well as promoting trades that help to promote creativity in the Barquisimeto community.

Unfortunately, and as has been usual in recent times with all the built heritage of the city, I observed serious maintenance problems, at least on the occasions that I have visited, which puts at risk, both the works exhibited or stored there, as well as the very reason for the existence of this institution.
