#needleworkmonday :: Spectacles case from scrap fabric pieces

Happy, happy #NeedleWorkMonday everyone!

4.jpg

This week started with me finding some debris in my bag.

5.jpg

...which I later found out was coming from my spectacle case.

6.jpg

The "skin" has started to peel bit by bit. I guess, it was time to sew a spectacle case for myself.

7.jpg

First, I roughly measured the spectacles, width...

8.jpg

and lengthwise (or maybe it is the other way round :D)

9.jpg

For the lining, I chose to use the cloth that usually comes with the spectacle case when we purchase them. The safest option because this way, we can be quite certain that the fabric will not scratch the spectacles.

10.jpg

As for the outer fabric, I thought why not use up some of my scraps considering I have quite a bit hanging around. I figured by piecing the pieces, the spectacles case would be thick enough to not need an interface.

11.jpg

Like a jigsaw puzzle, I tried to piece the scraps together.

12.jpg

And I kept going, keeping in mind to join the scraps to form some sort of rectangle if possible.

13.jpg

At one point, it became a little confusing and I ironed the pieces to flatten them.

14.jpg

There was a rectangle, sort of.

15.jpg

I laid it flat and cut the uneven sides away.

16.jpg

17.jpg

To be sure of the size, I ironed it flat again.

18.jpg

At this point, I could see how much more fabric I need to add. I cut out 2 pieces of strips to add on to the scrap patch.

I sewed on the additional strips and then sewed wrong side of the patch to the yellow lining...

20.jpg

...going all around and left about 2 inches of gap to turn the piece inside out.

21.jpg

Slowly turned the insides out.

22.jpg

Then, I top stitched to furher flatten the piece and hopefully making it neater :D

23.jpg

Not too neat but for my first attempt, I think I accept it :)

24.jpg

I folded the piece into half and sewed the side and bottom.

25.jpg

One side view with the spectacles inside.
2.jpg

And the other side. Phew... luckily it fit. With the scraps patch, things can get a little tricky :D
3.jpg

But I am glad I did this because I have always wanted to do some patchwork with scraps. It gave me an idea what to expect and what I should look out for, especially when the shapes of the scraps are odd to begin with.

Looks very cool... Definitely a cool project as you've recycled all the scraps you had too! :)

Great, what a great job you did!
Congratulations! Now you have an exclusive model of lens holder.
And just pieces of cloth, wow.

Oh god, this looks so fiddly!!! I admire your nerves. But as always your persistence paid out as the case is very cute, especially with the contrast of the yellow lining. And sometimes I think you are my sewing consciousness 😂😂😂 You tackle all the things I should do (but constantly postpone) Since we had the warm weather I tell my self to crochet or sew a case for my sunglasses which I (shame on me) mostly throw into my bag. This does not improve the glasses... and as I often use cheap supermarket sunglasses they are mostly scratched very fast.
I really should make a case, really!!!

Thank you dear :D I think it is a wee bit small. I might need to make another one haha. Yes yes, do it! You would have many scraps from all your beautiful blouse and skirts. Use them! :) Protect your sunglasses :) But I noticed too, the cheaper sunglasses do get scratched easily. Do do do 😎

I think I finally need to buy sunglasses with corrective lenses..... but they are so expensive here.

Love how you used your scraps really put to good use. Me, too, I don't throw away scraps that's why my family call me "basurera" or hoarder of garbage. They just do not know, it can be redesign especially nice cloth print.

Right?? I think I hoard too :D So many things that others meant to throw but I take and keep them, hoping, thinking they can be turned into something else. I need more room! :D
Thank you dear.

As long as it doesn't crush your glasses, I think you're good. :)

It doesn't but if I put it into the bag, other stuffs would crush it :D
