I have been thinking about this question for days and of course I have a strong answer and opinion about it. However, the way to approach it has been going round and round in my head all these days. Undoubtedly this question is one of the most important questions in life, and whether we have asked it or not, consciously or unconsciously, we have all questioned this. It is therefore important to try to find the answer.

It seems to me that the best way to approach the subject is mathematically, that is, by breaking down the problem and solving each part at the same time, don't you think it is a good idea? I have been very surprised, how you have treated this topic of spirituality in these first two challenges, in such an intelligent way. Wow, hats off to @eco-alex when I read the question.

Well, in the invitation to this contest it emphatically asks "IF there is a God?" and this is basically the basis of it all. After trying to get this question answered, we can address the rest of the question WHY IS THERE SO MUCH SUFFERING IN THE WORLD?

Is there a God?

Believers say yes, atheists say no. However, as also mentioned in the invitation to this contest. Many have come to this conclusion, that there must not be a God, based on the question we left to analyze last, suffering. So, for the moment, let us try to leave this factor out of the equation.

Many people of science, throughout history, have doubted the existence of a creator. However, it is their own studies and research that have led them to realize that such complex structures as the universe and the physical laws that govern it, the sun, the moon, the planet earth, human beings, plants and animals with their very complex systems and structures, microorganisms, the cycles of the elements, are convincing proof that a powerful and intelligent being is behind it all. For, all this wonder could not have come into existence simply by chance.

In a simple way a sacred book, the Bible, written thousands of years ago contemplates this idea that makes us think about the above:

"...every house is built by someone, but the one who has built all things is God" Hebrews 3:4.

Furthermore, the study of creation is what has made these people of science marvel at the complexity and greatness behind each of their objects of study. Moreover, the qualities of this creator can be perceived by paying attention to or studying in detail any of the created things:

"For his invisible qualities-his eternal power and divinity-are clearly seen from the creation of the world, for they are perceived by created things, so that they are without excuse." Romans 1:20

What can we say about human beings, people of flesh and blood who are capable of creating magnificent things. I am one of the main admirers of our species. How could man discover electricity and create all the means for us to make use of it, the telephone, the computer, the internet, technology in general, and everything else he has created.

"So God went on to create the human being in his image. In the image of God he created him. Male and female he created them." Genesis 1:27

We were created in the image and likeness of God, so we manifest qualities like his: love, justice, wisdom and power. That is why we can create great things and give life as well, albeit to an imperfect degree.

Does this seem logical to you? Are these really proofs that there is a creator or God? Well, I think so, but they are just some of them.

Then, if God really exists, why does suffering exist, is God responsible for this suffering?

Why is there so much suffering?, ¿does God cause it?

As I said before, through creation, we can see the invisible qualities of God. We, human beings, can see in colors, smell different aromas, appreciate different tastes, feel different textures and this is not necessary for life. In turn, our environment is full of beautiful colors in flowers, plants, in the sun, sky, water, in the different amount of food we have at our disposal which in turn have different tastes, smells and textures.

Also, animals are different and produce music to delight our senses. None of that is indispensable to live, but if we think about it we can see that the creator of all those things had the power to make them, he was wise to be able to create them and organize them in such a way that they functioned as a system and fulfilled each one its purpose and in the right measure. But we also see love there, a great display of love. He wanted His most precious creation, human beings, to enjoy life on earth, so He made everything good and everything beautiful.

But then, why do we suffer? We have been taught to believe that suffering is God's responsibility, either because it is a punishment or because it is a test. Does this make sense: could someone have been so concerned about creating everything the way he did, good things, and subject his very creation to bad things?

However, this does not answer this question, but generates more doubts, is it possible?

In the face of many injustices, even religious leaders or well-intentioned people say that it was God's will. Others think they are tests to make us stronger. But look at these simple words what they tell us about God:

"it is unthinkable that the true God should act wickedly, that the Almighty should do anything unjust!" Job 34:10.

So, if God doesn't create suffering, then why does it exist?

I don't want to make this post too long so that more readers will be encouraged to go all the way to the end. But, in addition to the qualities mentioned, God also endowed us with something else. Over there I read in some comments that mentioned it, that is the "free will". That is, the ability of human beings to make their own decisions.

And what did man decide? Well, to live in independence from God by disobeying him from the beginning. Even now, man has created his own rules and has lived as he wishes, without seeking guidance from the Creator, who knows us better than anyone else and also wants the best for us, like a loving father.

He, God, in adherence to justice, as he created us with free will, let us live with our decision. But we must reap the consequences of those decisions. As when a loving father raises his son, giving him the best and educating him in the best way, but this, when he becomes an adult, decides to lead a contrary life, because perhaps, he believes that his father is wrong and he will do better living in his own way.

But what does that loving father do, can he stop his adult son from making his decision? Maybe there is some way for him to prevent it, but should he really do it? On the other hand, is the parent to blame, for the bad things that happen to his child, for allowing him to make his choices? These are all things we need to reflect on.

However it is also important to see the role of the father here, despite the consequences of his son's bad decisions the father is still a good father. For perhaps he is there to provide help to his son if he seeks it. So he will give him the guidance and direction he needs and help him get up when he falls because of his mistakes and he would receive him back.

Despite all this, it is not the only reason why suffering exists. But I think that is enough for this post.

Si hay un Dios, ¿por qué hay tanto sufrimiento en el mundo?

Tengo días pensando en esta pregunta y claro que tengo una contundente respuesta y opinión con respecto a ella. Sin embargo la forma de abordarla me ha dado vueltas y vueltas en la cabeza, todos estos días. Sin duda esta pregunta recoge una de las más importantes interrogantes de la vida, y bien sea que nos la hayamos hecho o no, consciente o inconscientemente, todos nos hemos cuestionado esto. Por lo tanto es importante tratar de hallar la respuesta.

Me parece que la mejor manera de abordar el tema es de forma matemática Es decir, descomponiendo el problema y resolver cada parte a la vez ¿no te parece buena idea? Me ha sorprendido mucho, como se ha tratado este tema de la espiritualidad en estos dos primeros challenge, de una forma tan inteligente. Wow me quito el sombrero y se lo comenté a @eco-alex cuando leí la pregunta.

Pues bien, en la invitación a este contest se plantea de forma enfática “¿SI hay un Dios?” y esto es básicamente la base de todo. Luego de tratar de obtener respuesta a esta pregunta, podemos abordar el resto de la cuestión ¿POR QUÉ HAY TANTO SUFRIMIENTO EN EL MUNDO?

¿Hay un Dios?

Creyentes dicen que sí, ateos dicen que no. Sin embargo como también se mencionó en el planteamiento de la invitación a este contest. Muchos han llegado a esta conclusión, de que no debe existir un Dios, con base a la cuestión que dejamos para analizar de último, el sufrimiento. Así que, por el momento, tratemos de dejar este factor fuera de la ecuación.

Muchas personas de ciencia, a lo largo de la historia, han dudado de la existencia de un creador. Sin embargo, son sus mismos estudios e investigaciones quienes los han llevado a darse cuenta que estructuras tan complejas como el universo y las leyes físicas que lo rigen, el sol, la luna, el planeta tierra, los seres humanos, las plantas y animales con sus sistemas y estructuras muy complejos, los microorganismos, los ciclos de los elementos, son una prueba contundente de que un ser poderoso e inteligente está detrás de todo esto. Pues, toda esta maravilla no pudo haber llegado a existir simplemente por casualidad.

De forma sencilla un libro sagrado, la Biblia, escrito hace miles de años contempla esta idea que nos hace pensar en lo anterior:

“…toda casa es construida por alguien, pero el que ha construido todas las cosas es Dios” Hebreos 3:4

Además, el estudio de la creación es lo que ha hecho que estas personas de ciencia, queden maravillados por la complejidad y grandeza que hay detrás de cada uno de sus objetos de estudio. Es más, las cualidades de este creador se pueden percibir al prestar atención o estudiar con detalle alguna de las cosas creadas:

“Porque sus cualidades invisibles —su poder eterno y divinidad—se ven claramente desde la creación del mundo, pues se perciben por las cosas creadas, de modo que ellos no tienen excusa.” Romanos 1:20

Que podemos decir del ser humano, personas de carne y hueso que son capaces de crear cosas magníficas. Yo soy una de las principales admiradoras de nuestra especie. Como pudo el hombre descubrir la electricidad y crear todos los medios para que pudiéramos valernos de ella, el teléfono, la computadora, el internet, en general la tecnología, y todo lo demás que ha creado.

“Así que Dios pasó a crear al ser humano a su imagen. A la imagen de Dios lo creó. Hombre y mujer los creó” Génesis 1:27

Fuimos creados a la imagen y semejanza de Dios, por eso manifestamos cualidades como las de el: amor, justicia, sabiduría y poder. Por eso podemos crear cosas grandiosas y dar vida también, aunque en un grado imperfecto.

¿Te parece lógico esto? Realmente son éstas, pruebas de que existe un creador o Dios. Pues yo creo que sí, pero simplemente son algunas de ellas.

Entonces, si de verdad existe Dios, ¿por qué existe el sufrimiento?, ¿Es Dios el responsable de este sufrimiento?

¿Porque hay tanto sufrimiento, Dios lo causa?

Como les comente anteriormente, a través de la creación, podemos ver las cualidades invisibles de Dios. Nosotros, los seres humanos, podemos ver en colores, oler diferentes aromas, apreciar diferentes sabores, sentir diferentes texturas y esto no es necesario para la vida. A su vez, nuestro entorno está lleno de colores hermosos en las flores, plantas, en el solo, cielo, agua, en la diferente cantidad de alimentos que tenemos a nuestra disposición que a su vez tienen sabores, olores y texturas distintas.

También, los animales son diferentes y producen música para deleitar nuestros sentidos. Nada de eso es indispensable para vivir, pero si lo pensamos bien podemos ver que el creador de todas esas cosas tuvo Poder para hacerlas, fue sabio para poder crearlas y organizarlas de tal manera que funcionaran como un sistema y cumpliera cada uno su propósito y en la medida justa. Pero también vemos amor allí, una gran muestra de amor. Él quiso que su creación más preciada, los seres humanos, disfrutara de la vida en la tierra, por eso todo lo hizo bueno y todo lo hizo hermoso.

Pero entonces, ¿por qué sufrimos? Se nos ha enseñado a creer que el sufrimiento es responsabilidad de Dios, bien porque es un castigo o bien porque es una prueba. Tiene esto sentido. ¿Puede alguien haberse preocupado tanto en crear todo tal y como lo hizo, cosas buenas, y someter a su misma creación a lo malo?

Sin embargo esto no responde esta interrogante sino que genera más dudas, ¿será posible?

Ante muchas injusticias, incluso líderes religiosos o personas bien intencionadas dicen que fue la voluntad de Dios. Otros piensas que son pruebas para hacernos más fuertes. Pero fíjate en estas palabras sencillas lo que nos dicen sobre Dios:

“¡es impensable que el Dios verdadero actúe con maldad, que el Todopoderoso haga algo injusto!” Job 34:10

Entonces, si Dios no causa el sufrimiento, entonces ¿por qué existe?

No quiero hacer este post demasiado largo para que más lectores se animen a llegar hasta el final. Pero, además de las cualidades mencionadas, Dios también nos dotó de algo más. Por allí leí en algunos comentarios que lo mencionaban, eso es el “libre albedrío”. Es decir la capacidad que tienen los seres humanos de tomar sus propias decisiones.

¿Y qué decidió el hombre? Pues vivir en independencia de Dios al desobedecerlo desde el principio. Aun ahora, el hombre se ha creado sus propias reglas y ha vivido como quiere, sin buscar la guía del creador, quien nos conoce mejor que nadie y además desea lo mejor para nosotros, como un padre amoroso.

Él, Dios, en apego a la justicia, tal y como nos creó con libre albedrió, nos dejó vivir con nuestra decisión. Pero debemos cosechar las consecuencias de esas decisiones. Como cuando un padre amoroso cría a su hijo, dándole lo mejor y educándolo de la mejor manera, pero este, cuando se hace adulto, decide llevar una vida contraria, porque quizás, cree que su padre está equivocado y le irá mejor viviendo a su manera.

Pero que hace ese amoroso padre, ¿puede impedir que su hijo adulto tome su decisión? Quizás haya alguna manera de que lo impida pero en realidad ¿debe hacerlo? Por otro lado, ¿es culpable el padre, por las cosas malas que le pasan a su hijo, por permitirle tomar sus decisiones? Todas estas son cosas en las cuales debemos reflexionar.

Sin embargo también es importante ver el papel del padre aquí, a pesar de las consecuencias de las malas decisiones de su hijo el padre aún sigue siendo un buen padre. Porque quizás esta allí para brindarle ayuda a su hijo si este la busca. Entonces le dará la guía y orientación que necesita y lo ayudará a levantarse cuando caiga debido a sus errores y lo recibiría de vuelta.

A pesar de todo esto, no es la única razón por la que existe el sufrimiento. Pero creo que es bastante para este post.
