A little over a week ago, in this community I read a post where the new Netflix series, Partner Track, was recommended. From what I read, what caught my attention the most was:

⭐ it only has 10 episodes.
⭐ It is a series about lawyers.
⭐ It was recommended as very good.

So without thinking about it, that very morning I started watching this series. My husband and I love to have marathons to watch series. When we are excited about a series, we go to bed late, get up early and try to leave some things undone during the day so we can watch some episodes. He's a lawyer and I took two years of law school, so this topic appeals to us. So, this is a series we could watch in a single weekend.

🎬 About Partner Track

image.png

As I already told you Partner Track is a new drama series from Netflix and it is based on books. This series is based on the novel "The partner track " by Helen Wan, directed by Georgia Lee and set in New York.

The main characters of this story are:

  • Arden Cho (Ingrid Yun): She is the protagonist of the story. She is a young Asian lawyer, trying to make her way in a prestigious law firm. Her main goal, like that of other colleagues, is to be chosen as a partner of the firm. To do so, she will work very hard, as the intelligent, diligent and capable lawyer that she is, overcoming all the obstacles that stand in her way to succeed in her work in order to guarantee her partnership in a field led by men.

  • Alexandra Turshen (Rachel Friedman*): She is another young lawyer at the firm and Ingrid's best friend. She has a unique and irreverent personality and adds variety to the plot.

  • Bradley Gibson (Tyler Robinson*): He is another young and talented lawyer, who along with Ingrid and Rachel form a trio of best friends and former college roommates who fight to earn their place as partners at the firm while facing different dramas in their personal lives that will bring up controversial issues.

  • Dominic Sherwood (Jeff Murphy): Jeff is part of Ingrid's past and suddenly appears on the scene, adding to the list of lawyers waiting to be chosen as partners in the firm. He is attractive, competitive and cocky, so his appearance tries to deconcentrate Ingrid's pursuit of her goals.

  • Rob Heaps (Nick Laren): Rich young man who enters the scene in a very timely manner to ease the pressure on Ingrid, or maybe not.

🎬 Themes narrated in the series

image.png

This series deals with themes such as, gender discrimination, racism, ambition, selfishness, friendship, family, morality and principles. The protagonist (Ingrid), is determined to earn her position as a partner in the firm. To this end, she works tirelessly day and night, and strives tenaciously to overcome each of the obstacles that stand in the way of signing a million-dollar contract that would guarantee her the partnership.

It stands out as there are still sectors of society dominated by men, which causes the balance to tilt unequally against women, making it more difficult for them to obtain fair pay for equal work performed in comparison with men.

Also, the different strategies used by lawyers to achieve an end are presented in the panorama. Laws can be skillfully used to solve pitfalls that arise as a result of the application of other rules. On the other hand, how manipulation, blackmail and other less honest means are also weapons with which some lawyers manage to obtain benefits in favor of their clients. Both are means to obtain advantages in favor of clients, so what does it depend on? on the skill and ideals of the jurist. All this is glimpsed in the series.

Also, it is clear what the concept of morality means to each one. For example, while the moral compass is uncomfortable with certain actions of one of the lawyers to the detriment of a party involved in a merger, there is no prejudice to act in one's personal life in a way that is harmful and disloyal to people close to them who have only shown their unconditional support.

Both in the series and in real life, many people seeking their own interests neglect, hurt or manipulate others for their own benefit. But whoever acts badly, it goes badly, right? that happens sooner or later and we can see that in the series.

I didn't want to make spolier that's why I only mention topics that are dealt with and that maybe the appearance of certain things with which the series concludes will be disproved in a second season, and it doesn't turn out to be what it seems to be, I don't know.

Did I like the series? not really. I didn't like some of the main performances, the relationships were forced and rushed. The characters were immature and perhaps because it touched my deepest fibers, the double standards caused me discomfort, even though it is a latent reality of modern society. My husband only saw one episode and he didn't like it because of the way some relationships were presented. I finished watching it to get the whole picture.

So, this ratifies my belief that we cannot be blindly guided by one person's opinion, because everyone has their own tastes. What I didn't like, others have certainly liked and vice versa. If you have already seen this series, let me know your opinion.

Ahh did you dare to see it and did you like it? If ambition led her to put aside really important things and hurt others along the way. Everyone decides what is the priority in their life but without a doubt any decision we make will have consequences, good or bad😉😁.
