Hello cinephile friends, the truth is that it took me a while to write again in this community because I couldn't agree with my inner self about which movie I should write about. I have seen some series and movies lately, very different from each other, with diverse reflections, which have made me question about the most important issues I would like to share.

However, I present to you today my reflections on Time for Me, and not necessarily because it is the one that brings me the most meaning, but because there are many things in this movie that lend themselves to a healthy discussion. Until today, I had not read any reviews about it, however, while searching for images for this post, I came across a few comments from viewers, all of them negative by the way.

As to whether this film is good or bad, I am more and more convinced that each person must decide, because there are always preferences for each and every taste, no matter how bizarre or demanding they may be. But, you may wonder if I liked the movie, well...🙄, the truth is that it's not the best, but I've seen worse hahaha. What is true is that the plot sometimes seems to go for the obvious but it doesn't turn out that way.

So, I'll try to tell you a bit about the movie taking care not to make spoilers (I hope so) and then give you my impressions.

🎬 About "Time for Me"

image.png

Time for Me, is a very new movie (2022) from Hartbeat Productions, distributed by Netflix. This movie is not very long and has a great cast that strives to ennoble the script and do the best job to achieve what every comedy tries to achieve with the audience which is, make them laugh.

In the plot of this movie, they tell the story of a modern family (Fisher) where the wife is a successful architect and her husband stays home to take care of their two children. Then, during the 101 minutes of the film, it shows the vision from the inside and from the outside, of what it means for a man to be the one who stays at home to take care of the home and the children, while it shows the other side of the coin, which is that the wife succeeds in the world and has to deal with other men who may represent a temptation for them.

Likewise, it highlights the role of other family members and their influence on family relationships and the lifestyle they have decided to lead. As well as the effect or influences that friends can inject into each family.

You are already imagining what the plot is about. Well, it seems obvious, but the truth is that it's not so obvious. Give me a chance to tell you a little bit about the cast, and then clarify where the story is headed.

🎬 Cast of the movie

image.png

  • Kevin Hart** (Sonny Fisher): He's one of the main characters in this plot. He is Maya's husband and full-time father, who stays at home while his successful wife works as an architect. Sonny is very involved in his role at home, which he does excellently well and is deeply involved in his children's school activities. Practically his out-of-home contact is with other parents as they perform certain types of activities at their children's school.

  • Mark Wahlberg** (Huck*): He is the other main character in this comedy. Sonny and Huck have been friends since childhood, and the two have been together during each of Huck's birthday celebrations, until Sonny marries Maya.

  • Regina Hall** (Maya Fisher): She is Sonny's successful architect and wife. They both have two young children, a girl and a boy, who are used to their father taking care of them before, during and after school.

  • Luis Gerardo Méndez** (Armando Zavala*): Maya's millionaire and eccentric client.

  • Ilia Isorelys Paulino** (Thelma): I could have named a few more characters in the cast, but I decided to include Thelma, even though she is not staged until well into the plot, because she plays an important role in most of the crazy things this pair commits. She's an Uber driver and is hired by the pair of friends to get home after a notable incident.

🎬 Complications during the plot

image.png

Reading the title of this movie and knowing a little of what we already tell of the story, it's easy to conclude that it's about the main character trying to escape the responsibilities and obligations of a full-time dad, but that's not the case. Sonny is very comfortable with his responsibilities. He is also happy that his wife is successful and spends a lot of time away from home, and he is very involved in his children's school routine and even participates in many parent volunteer activities at the school his children attend.

It is his wife who wants him to take time for himself so he can rest from these obligations. However, ever since he got married, he has been running away from his friend Huck, who at first glance is the perfect bad company for a married man, and Sonny sees him as such, so he always finds excuses not to see him, especially on his birthday. Out of habit, Huck has always celebrated his birthday in a big and eccentric way, which includes risky activities.

Then, suddenly Maya gets the brilliant idea to take a week-long vacation with her children at her parents' house, but by herself. In this way, she allows her husband to rest and take time for himself to have fun. However, he has no friends in the area, he only interacts with other moms and dads at school, who he thought were his friends but discovers they are not.

image.png
Source: Imdb.com

One of these parents also makes him see that it is important for him to take time for himself and try to find another occupation other than being immersed in school and at home taking care of his children. This father makes him see himself as a man who is the boss at home, who is successful and who has the freedom to decide how to spend his free time and promises to accompany him during that week to do masculine activities, instead of accompanying his family on vacation. She also makes him see that if he doesn't make a change in his life he will end up to be like the lady who volunteers at the school helping in the parking lot, who ended up a failure and divorced.

Before Maya and Sonny separate during this week, a possible rival is revealed with whom Maya could be unfaithful to Sonny (Armando Zavala), who seems to flatter her and abusively makes "excuses" to be with Maya.

So far what do you think about this movie? Well, this week was not what Sonny planned it to be and sooner or later Huck enters the scene and Sonny accepted the invitation to her birthday party, and then shortly after everything gets out of control.

🎬 My thoughts

image.png

At this point, I'm thinking what else to tell you without spoiling what's to come in this story. But it is quickly laid bare that there are false appearances and that some and even some things are not what they appear to be. Also, it exposes the immaturity of some people and how it is true how bad influences can make people do crazy things.

But another thing that is also true is that, although there are people who demonstrate with their behavior that they are immature, it does not mean that they are bad people. Also, the plot of this story reminds us that we all have a talent and that we must pay attention to find it and if that happens, no matter what failures we have had, we will find the path to self-realization.

Something that I loved is how they show that a full-time dad can fulfill his role and be happy, and that even though traditional society is different, it doesn't mean that someone who is willing to live this kind of relationship is a failure. It was even shown in the plot, how some people pretend to try to have a different image in front of others to fit the stereotypes of society.

It makes me laugh too, to think that when there are people who love to do crazy things, they always run into someone crazier than them. So you have to be careful because the problems you will surely encounter will be more difficult to solve and the screw-ups will be bigger.

image.png
Source: Imdb.com

Many times family members interfere in the way a couple has decided to conduct their relationship. In real life I have known some cases where the insistence of some of them has been on the verge or have managed to lead to the failure of some of these relationships. In short, what is good for some is not good for others but there are families that work exceptionally well in unconventional ways and that is a particular reality that we must all respect.

It is also true that jealousy and mistrust make us do crazy things that we may regret later. Do you think that all successful women with husbands who are full-time fathers have to be unfaithful? Unfortunately society and machismo pushes them to it, but what will Maya do, is it possible after a lot of bullshit to keep a marriage together, is it always the parents who are right?

By the way, you might be wondering what role that turtle in the cover image plays, I wondered the same thing too 😅. Well you have to watch the movie to see what it's all about and find the answers to all the above questions 😉.

That turtle on the poster makes me curious. 😅

I can already imagine the kind of comedy of entanglement between two friends, one of them responsible with his family and the other one must be a mess. Most of the time this type of comedy works. I haven't read much about the movie, haven't seen the trailer yet. Maybe I'll see it in a couple of weeks, but right now I have almost no time to watch anything, I have a lot of movies to watch.

I invite you to visit the feed to interact with other users.

Hola @jcrodriguez.

Heyyy...this movie is something that I should see ..a lot of people get tired of seeing Kelvin Hart and his funny games, hehe but not me... sometime it's easier to just sit back and enjoy a movie without thinking too much or expecting too much..

That's the way to go and I think the story isn't out of the ordinary but surely isn't that bad...it's something I'll love to see ..

Thanks for sharing ❤️

Thanks for your review, @marbrym. I have so far avoided this film. Haha! It looks like one that will be full of slapstick comedy and I guess, without watching it, I'd already made up my mind how it would be. I'm glad you said that it's not the best but then showed how through layering it still manages to convey a number of different themes that are very real within our society. I may now watch it, even if only to find out about the turtle. 😉

I came to your post via dreemport.

There. You already spoke my mind. I haven't seen a positive review about the movie and that's exactly why I haven't bothered checking it out. Reading your post gives me a clear indication of what to expect.

Hahahahaha, come on, what's the turtle for??? So, this surprises me that it is not more highly rated with Wahlberg in it, I have not seen any movies with Kevin Hart at this point, so I can't say about the rating. Maybe if I get a chance to see this I should probably do so, as I don't see most movies the same way others see them, and I like comedy action movies as my favorite genre.
Nice job on the post @marbrym!

Do I agree with you that you haven't given me a spoiler 😅 Maybe when I watch the movie, I'll confirm whether you've given me spoiler or not.

At a point I had to stop reading, and I'll have to go and watch the movie.

Kelvin Hart is brilliant in the roles he play pertaining to redefining Fatherhood and it is quite interesting. I'm loving this and I hope to see the movie soon. Luckily for me I just renewed my Netflix Sub 😁
