– ¿Pertenezco a tu cadena alimenticia?
– No.
– ¿Te hice algún mal?
– No.
– Entonces, ¿Porque quieres acabar conmigo?

There is a well-known fable attributed to Aesop, The Serpent and the Firefly which reads verbatim the following: Legend has it that once, a snake began to chase a firefly; it quickly fled from the fierce predator, but the snake did not intend to give up. He fled one day and she did not give up, two days and nothing. On the third day, the Firefly stopped and pretending to be exhausted, she said to the snake:
– Wait, I give up, but before catching me let me ask you a few questions.
– I do not usually answer questions from anyone, but since I plan to devour you, you can ask me.
– Do I belong to your food chain?
– Nope.
– Did I do you any wrong?
– Nope.
– So, why do you want to end me?
– Because I can't stand to see you shine.

This fable leaves a great teaching, who shines with his own light will always have an envious one who seeks to extinguish his light.

The Venezuelan singer-songwriter, AlÍ Primera, said that whoever lives in the darkness (darkness) with a lot of light is dazzled, and it is true. If you spend a lot of time in a dark or low-light place your pupils dilate so when you come out to clarity your eyes take a few seconds to focus properly or to adapt to daylight without the flash bothering you, that happens because you must contract the pupil to filter the light. When the pupil conserses we are talking about myosis. This happens when vision is exposed to situations of intense light and photopic vision is activated. When the pupil contracts, the circular muscles of the iris or iridian sphincter intervene In conclusion: "the more light received, the dilation of the pupil will be less; the less exposure to light, the greater the dilation."

We begin the week with a very short gospel but one that is loaded with a lot of Christian teaching; Saint Luke the Evangelist (8,16-18) tells us that Jesus of Nazareth told the people, I quote: "Nobody lights a lamp and covers it with a pot or puts it under the bed; the lampstand so that those who enter may have light." Let us remember that Jesus many times said that He was the light of the world, I am the light of the world; Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life. (John 8:12) Jesus is that light that we must not hide, that light that illuminates the path for us and that when we carry that "Candil" we will illuminate all those around us. The light conquers the shadows as the phrase that begins the second stanza of the hymn of the Central University of Venezuela says. The house where there are morals and lights, lights of knowledge and wisdom, lights that will allow us to light the way where we are going, lights of science and knowledge, lights that also invite us to be humble before God and man and recognize that we must receive the most beautiful flashes that life gives us and at the same time go like the firefly, illuminating with our own light and raising the light of the word of God to illuminate our path and the path of our neighbor.

Another of the phrases that Jesus says and that St. Luke collects in this Gospel is the following: Nothing is hidden that does not come to be discovered, nothing secret that does not come to be known or made public. in the mouth of Jesus this phrase tells us that there are still hidden things that one day will be revealed and in human language we can translate it that "between heaven and earth there is nothing hidden." No more lies in the world, the truth always comes to light. Here we return to speak of the light that reveals the truth. Light teaches and liberates.

"Let's see if you listen to me correctly: to those who have, it will be given, to those who do not have, even what they think they have will be taken away" this is the third great phrase that the evangelist presents to us in this short gospel, It is also collected by Matthew 13:12. Here Jesus was blunt and with an imperative word he teaches that they, his disciples and apostles, have a great responsibility before God and the world, the Good News cannot be closed off but must be opened to the public so that others may also enjoy the grace of God. Christians should not hide the word but sow it so that it germinates, grows and reproduces. Followers of Jesus of Nazarte cannot keep the gospel safe by hiding it in their minds and hearts, but must invest time and effort to increase the number of the elect. If a Christian does not preach with his words and deeds, but gives testimony of faith and if he does not have love, it is what Saint Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 13: 1 "If I spoke human and angelic languages, and not I have charity, I am like metal that resonates, or cymbal that tinkles" this expression is because both instruments are only pleasant within a piece of music, but played alone, they annoy and make noise. So many who "have" but do not invest will be taken away, instead those who are productive by multiplying the word will be given more and more knowledge, science, wisdom and intelligence, they will see the light and they will also be light for the world.

Reading of the Holy Gospel according to Luke 8:16-18

At that time, Jesus said to the crowd:
"No one has lit a lamp, covered it with a vessel or put it under the bed; but he puts it in the limelight so that those who enter see the light.

Well, there is nothing hidden that is not discovered or anything secret that does not come to be known and made public.

Look, then, at how you hear. for the one who has it will be given and the one who does not have will be taken away even what he thinks he has."
