El evangelio de san Lucas 12, 35-38 es similar al evangelio de san Mateo 25, donde Jesús de Nazaret explica a sus discípulos la parábola de las diez vírgenes. En ambos evangelios los texto se enmarcan en las parábolas escatológicas de la vigilancia:
"Dichosos aquellos a quienes su señor, al llegar, encuentre en vela". Se trata de un serenazgo activo, donde el velar represente acción cristiana, movimiento de fe, conduncente a trabajar por amor a Dios y al prójimo, dejándonos alimentar del espíritu de amor, justicia, luz, verdad y vida. Estar siempre listos implica oración constante, ayuno y penitencia, prácticas piadosas y caridad. Vigilar en el contexto del evangelio significa que debemos dar testimonio del amor de Cristo, predicando el evangelio a toda criatura y alabando al Padre Celestial, Todopoderoso, Único, Supremo y Eterno. Al finalizar el evangelio, san Lucas hace énfasis en la promesa del Mesías:
"Bienaventurados aquellos criados a quienes el señor, al llegar, los encuentre en vela; en verdad os digo que se ceñirá, los hará sentar a la mesa y, acercándose, les irá sirviendo." La promesa de la salvación y la vida eterna junto al Señor, nuestro Dios, está dada, falta que nosotros nos mantengamos despiertos, vigilantes y activos para recibirlo, con nuestras lámparas encendidas, cuando Él regrese.

The Gospel of Saint Luke 12: 35-38 is similar to the Gospel of Saint Matthew 25, where Jesus of Nazareth explains to his disciples the parable of the ten virgins. In both Gospels the texts are framed in the eschatological parables of vigilance:
"Blessed are those whom their lord, upon arrival, finds awake." It is an active serenade, where watching represents Christian action , movement of faith, conducive to working for love of God and neighbor, allowing ourselves to be nourished by the spirit of love, justice, light, truth and life. Always being ready involves constant prayer, fasting and penance, godly practices, and charity. Watching in the context of the gospel means that we must bear witness to the love of Christ, preaching the gospel to every creature and praising the Heavenly Father, Almighty, Unique, Supreme, and Eternal. At the end of the Gospel, Saint Luke emphasizes the promise of the Messiah:
"Blessed are those servants whom the Lord, upon arrival, finds them awake; truly I tell you that he will gird himself, make them sit at the table and , approaching, he will serve them." The promise of salvation and eternal life with the Lord, our God, is given, we need to stay awake, vigilant and active to receive it, with our lamps lit, when He I am back.

En aquel tiempo, Jesús dijo a sus discípulos: “Estén listos, con la túnica puesta y las lámparas encendidas. Sean semejantes a los criados que están esperando a que su señor regrese de la boda, para abrirle en cuanto llegue y toque. Dichosos aquellos a quienes su señor, al llegar, encuentre en vela. Yo les aseguro que se recogerá la túnica, los hará sentar a la mesa y él mismo les servirá. Y si llega a medianoche o a la madrugada y los encuentra en vela, dichosos ellos”.

Reading from the Holy Gospel according to Luke 12:35-38
At that time, Jesus said to his disciples, "Be ready, with your robe on and the lamps lit. Be like the servants who are waiting for their lord to return from the wedding, to open him as soon as he arrives and touches. Blessed are those whom your lord, when he arrives, finds awake. I assure you that he will pick up the robe, make you sit at the table and he will serve you himself. And if he arrives at midnight or at dawn and finds them awake, happy are they."
