The United States real GDP decreased at an annualized rate (and seasonally adjusted) of 1.4% in the first quarter of 2021 compared to the second quarter, according to the Bureau of Economic Analysis report. This is the advance estimate. This report shows the first negative quarter since the pandemic. If a consecutive quarter is negative, we would be formally in a recession.

In 2021, the economy of the United States grew 5.7% as evidenced by the real GDP compared to the 2020 one. In the third quarter of 2021, the real GDP increased 2.3% compared to the previous quarter. In the fourth quarter the real GDP increased 6.9% compared to the third quarter.

You have presented a beautiful analysis of GDP. However, the decline in GDP is something to think about.

In addition to seasonal fluctuations, it should be noted that the recent election race and the confrontation between Trump and Biden supporters did not contribute to GDP growth.
