Hello friends Full Deportes

Six days have passed since the Australia Open 2022 started and we already have the names for the round of 16.

The competition has been fabulous and very balanced. Up to this stage there have been no major surprises precisely because everyone has a chance; however, the duels on the court have been intense and predict better performances from the round of 16 onwards.

Before starting with the sports, let's go to some aspects of show business.

The world number 2 in the ATP world ranking met Nick Kyrgios, the darling of the local audience, in the second round. Kyrgios' powerful serving game and his Show Man job made the fans whistle on several occasions. This annoyed Daniil Medvedev.

I think the Russian should learn that in tennis there are favorites and that fans are free to support whoever they want, respecting of course the rules of tennis. Medvedev is a tennis player whose game I don't like but his technique has positive results for him.

In that game I saw him everywhere. He is like a ghost to receive all the balls and return them. That frustrates his opponent and possibly also the public. So, he must learn to control his words that he makes against the audience. He must win over the audience and start building his fan base because otherwise he will always have whistles to torment him.

Another highlight of the Australia Open and the Grand Slams is the return of Rafael Nadal. The Spanish tennis player, winner of 20 Grand Slam titles has been terrific in his first three rounds.

Watching Nadal play with all his professionalism and passion is admirable. Injuries have always been present in his sporting life but that does not dampen his performance on the court.

Nadal won in three sets against Giron in the first round and Hanfmann in the second round. In the latter match, only in the third set, was when I noticed that the German player's parallel was hurting him. However, Nadal had already broken once and held on until the end.

In the third round, he had to work four sets to beat Russia's Khachanov. He lost the third set on an unfortunate break but in the fourth he pulverized Khachanov's intentions and won 1-6.

Although, he is not among my favorites, because of the contenders that come to him and because he is in fast court and the ball is running very well, he is undoubtedly an example of technique and good tennis.

Few tennis players have reached this stage playing only three sets.

Kecmanovic had to battle against the Italian Sonego, especially in the second and fourth sets of his match. While Monfils has been relentless beating Coria, Bublik and Garin in three sets each. So far, Frenchman Gael Monfils has only faced one top 20 player and that was Chilean Christian Garin and he beat him with forcefulness, and elegance.

Pedro Carreño Busta I didn't think he was going to make it this far. In the second round he had an epic battle against Griekspoor whom he defeated in five sets. Then, in the third round he left on the way the American Korda showing that his physical conditions are very good.

He will have to face nothing more and nothing less than Berrettini, seventh in the ATP ranking. It has not been easy for this tennis player to reach the round of 16. He beat the American Nakashima in four sets and then in four sets, also against Kozlov.

The most exciting match was the one he had with the young Alcaraz, whom he defeated in five sets. Carlos Alcaraz, from my point of view, still has a long way to go to grow in tennis, and that will be his biggest challenge. Berrettini won in five sets and in tie break, after dominating the first two sets of the match.

I think Matteo should beat Pedro Carreño but everything will depend on his physical condition, as he has the mental conditions to go ahead.

My favorite, Alexander Zverev has been very good so far. It's worth saying that he hasn't had any contenders that have made him doubt yet. He will play Denis Shapovalov who has had a lot of work to get to the round of 16. I really liked his performance against Opelka as he showed good tennis technique for hard courts.

The Zverev vs. Shapovalov match may give us an indication of who will reach the final. I hope it will be Zverev.

For the match between Adrian Mannarino and Rafa Nadal there will be a lot of balance. Nadal has shown all his courage on the court. His physical and mental conditions make him to be in the quarterfinals. However, Mannarino can be a surprise. He has not been dominant, especially in the last match against Karatsev but he has been consistent.

One of the matches that I think will be very exciting is Alex de Miñaur versus Jannik Sinner. Miñaur has been dominant on the court and his returns have been good. In the case of Sinner I consider him to be one of the great promises of Italian tennis. In the match against the Japanese Daniel took control of the match from the third set on.

I could not understand how he let himself be broken by Daniel in the second set. It seemed that Sinner had no rhythm, however my doubts were dispelled in the third set. He improved on his serve, had good reads on the ball and made superb returns.

If what I saw is repeated, Sinner would be my favorite to win this match.

In the case of Taylor vs Tsitsipas, I have my doubts. I would love to see Taylor Fritz win this match and get into the quarterfinals. His best match was against Bautista Agut, however it took him five sets to eliminate him.

For his part, the Greek Tsitsipas has risen to the occasion. He is a very charismatic tennis player that does not convince me. He is very emotional and that makes him unbalanced. If Tsitsipas wins the first set I think that will give him confidence but if he loses that set he can lose his concentration until he loses this match so important for him.

Marin Cilic is one of those players who could not achieve more in the Federer-Nadal-Djokovic era. Nevertheless, he is still there! His game has not been dominant but it has been effective, and that needs to be highlighted. He will play against Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime who had a quite demanding start in this tournament but as he has progressed his tennis looks very good. This match will also be very exciting because there is no favorite.

Finally, the number two on the ATP circuit Daniil Medvedev will play against the American Maxime Cressy. I think the way the Russian Medvedev is playing, no one has any doubt that he will win in three sets against Cressy.

Daniil Medvedev has been solvent with his serve. His returns are very accurate. He appears everywhere on the court and he hears the ball well on hard courts. He is a strong candidate to reach the final and even to win this tournament.

Keys to Medvedev's triumphs: acceleration, change of rhythm, and balls flush at the net.

Hola amiga @marcybetancourt,

Saludos!
