Hello hivefriends, movie lovers.

I finally got to see Dune. I have several feelings about this 2021 version of Frank Herbert's book that I want to share in the Movies & TV Shows Community.

At first I couldn't help comparing it to David Lynch's Dune (1984) but we are undoubtedly watching two different film adaptations. Denis Villeneuve has won me over with three key aspects: the greater fidelity to the novel, the cinematography and the music.

I'm not going to make a comparative post with other films but rather focus on what I think can catch the viewers. Beforehand, I think this film is going to have radially divided audiences and, in a way, it is good that it is so because it is part of the evolution of cinema, and unquestionably of us as spectators.

¿De qué trata? / What is it about?

We find ourselves on the planet Caladan in the year 10191. Duke Leto (Oscar Isaac) of the House of Atreides is appointed by Emperor Padishah Shaddam Corrino IV to take over the desert planet of Arrakis, replacing the ruler of the House of Harkonnen.

Duke Leto is romantically linked to Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson). The two have a son named Paul (Timothée Chalamet) who is trained by Leto's aides in physical skills, and his mother trains him in advanced mental skills that come from the brotherhood to which she belongs.

Actually, it is a great plot. The emperor wishes to eradicate the House of Atreides (who are a threat to him) and he will do it through the House of Harkonnen (the fiefdom that for generations ruled Arrakis).

The planet Arrakis has very special characteristics. It is an inhospitable place that produces "spice", which is a substance necessary for interstellar travel as it provides vitality to the human race. The Fremen are the native inhabitants of Arrakis who know "spice" very well and understand their deserted planet.

Summary: Duke Leto wishes to have a good relationship with the native Fremen population while seeking to strengthen the political position of the House of Atreides in the Landsraad (something like the legislature of all the noble houses of the empire).

Guion / Script

It's comforting for those who have enjoyed reading Frank Herbert's novel to see the achievement of Eric Roth, who was joined by Denis Villeneuve himself and also by Jon Spaihts, in the screenplay of Dune.

The adaptation of Dune from literature to film is a work of art with the epic overtones proposed by the lyrics. What I do not agree with is the length of the film of 2 hours and 35 minutes, but I must admit that they are justified for the enjoyment of the photography which is spectacular.

Now, we all know the repeated argument of the chosen one. Here too there is one, however it is shown in a leisurely manner not to understand what we quickly grasp but to make the drama more intense.

A very interesting aspect is that there is no interest in discovering the motivations of the characters and their emotions. The script focuses on the political conflicts and the different beliefs of the human groups that confront each other.

I believe that the dialogues chosen to make this Dune were the right ones and that this greatly strengthened the staging of this film.

The visuals in Dune are simply spectacular. Viewers who like the quality of light, the grandiloquence of the landscapes (even desert landscapes), and the use of different shots as a way to speak with images, will undoubtedly rejoice with Dune.

This aspect was in charge of Greig Fraser, and he excelled.

Depth of field, close-ups and counter shots, and landscape photography are a delight.

In the case of the close-ups, as I mentioned before, they were not made to show us the emotions of the characters but to harmonize them with the environment. My appreciation is that this technique had the overwhelming visual achievement that leads us to contemplation.

Of course, this is a science fiction film that always seeks to thrill us with special effects but here, the new technologies in cinema were used to bring us closer to a possible era.

The landscapes are of great beauty, presenting a simply exquisite composition and visual framing.

If someone comes to the cinema for the purpose of contemplation they will not be disappointed and I suggest, before I forget, that this film should be seen on the big screen. I had no choice but to watch it on television in a good quality version but I am convinced that it is a film to be seen in the theater.

At the beginning of this segment I also mentioned the depth of field where the blurs keep us aware of the majesty of the landscape versus the action of the characters. The scope of this visual language is explored to the maximum to be participants, as spectators, of the next scene.

The last aspect I want to praise was the music and in general the soundtrack because it is captivating.

Personally, I find that the master Hans Zimmer screws you to the seat. The music is sublime and becomes vital in this film. I think it is one of the best scores of this German composer, at least in recent years.

Zimmer's works in film are innumerable and he has achieved recognition for several of them; probably one of the most remembered is "The Lion King" but he has composed for "The Da Vinci Code", "12 Years a Slave", "Gladiator" and the unforgettable "Thelma & Louise", among dozens of films.

The soundtrack moves you, makes you an accomplice of the epic you are watching, and makes us dream along with the protagonist.

I'll leave it here, hoping to have caught your attention. Dune is not likely to please everyone because it is not a mass movie but if you give the film and the elements I highlighted a chance, I am sure you will be satisfied when you leave the theater.

Watch out for the human traffickers at hivefest. You wont know it until its too late. STAY AWAY! Beware, traffickers can be women or men! They will act nice until they dont. There is human trafficking going on around this type of crypto. I have witnessed it. They literally have attempted my murder and are trying to kill me with V2K and RNM. Five years this has been happening to me, it started here, around people that are still here. Homeland security has done nothing at all, they are not here to protect us. Dont we pay them to stop shit like this? The NSA, CIA, FBI, Police and our Government has done nothing. Just like they did with the Havana Syndrome, nothing. Patriot Act my ass. The American government is completely incompetent. The NSA should be taken over by the military and contained Immediately for investigation. I bet we can get to the sources of V2K and RNM then. https://ecency.com/fyrstikken/@fairandbalanced/i-am-the-only-motherfucker-on-the-internet-pointing-to-a-direct-source-for-voice-to-skull-electronic-terrorism ..... https://ecency.com/gangstalking/@acousticpulses/electronic-terrorism-and-gaslighting--if-you-downvote-this-post-you-are-part-of-the-problem if you run into one of them you may want to immediately shoot them in the face. 187, annihilate, asphyxiate, assassinate, behead, bleed, bludgeon, boil, bomb, bone, burn, bury, butcher, cap, casket, choke, chop, club, crucify, crush, curb, decapitate, decimate, deflesh, demolish, destroy, devein, disembowel, dismember, drown, electrocute, eliminate, end, euthanize, eviscerate, execute, explode, exterminate, extinguish, finish, fry, grind, guillotine, gut, hack, hang, hit, ice, implode, incinerate, kill, liquidate, lynch, massacre, maul, microwave, mutilate, neutralize, obliterate, off, pop, poison, punnish, quarter, ruin, shank, shock, shoot, shred, skin, slay, slaughter, smoke, smother, snipe, snuff, squish, stab, strangle, stone, suffocate, suicide, SWAT, swing, terminate, torture, terrorize, whack, waste, wreck. Hi @gwajnberg. The same thing happened to me too. I started watching the movie and didn't want to continue. But I gave it a second chance because we know the plot from the novel. I was really impressed by the photography and the music.
Thanks for the feedback. Regards!
