En Curitiba no solo podemos encontrar hermosos parques y bosques para visitar sino también memoriales y lugares que guardan la historia y tradición de otros países, mostrándonos un poco de su cultura a través de espacios creados en su honor como homenaje a quienes forman parte de la historia de la ciudad.

In Curitiba, we can find not only beautiful parks and forests to visit but also memorials and sites that preserve the history and traditions of other countries, showcasing a bit of their culture through spaces created in their honor as a tribute to those who are part of the city's history.

En esta ocasión visitamos el Memorial Ucraniano, el cual se encuentra ubicado dentro de las instalaciones del Parque Tingui pero a pesar de esto tiene su propio espacio y es independiente de este.

On this occasion, we visited the Ukrainian Memorial, which is located within the grounds of Tingui Park, but despite this, it has its own separate space and is independent of it.

El Memorial Ucraniano conocido como uno de los lugares históricos más importantes de la ciudad fue inaugurado en 1995, año en el que se celebró el centenario de la llegada de los primeros inmigrantes ucranianos a la ciudad y debido al impacto que estos tuvieron con su llegada fue creado este espacio en su honor.

The Ukrainian Memorial, known as one of the city's most important historical sites, was inaugurated in 1995, the year that marked the centenary of the arrival of the first Ukrainian immigrants to the city. Due to the impact they had upon their arrival, this space was created in their honor.

Dicho espacio está compuesto por varias partes, cada una de ellas muy importante y con un significado diferente en su historia. Comenzamos con el hermoso portal que da paso al memorial, una estructura elaborada en madera con un estilo acorde a la época.

This space is composed of several parts, each very important and with a different significance in its history. We begin with the beautiful portal that leads to the memorial, an elaborate wooden structure in a style appropriate to the era.

Pasando el portal podemos visualizar la parte considerada como el corazón del memorial, una réplica exacta de la antigua capilla cristiana ortodoxa dedicada a San Miguel Arcángel, construida en madera con una cúpula de metal y con una estructura y diseño al estilo bizantino, lo que le brinda a este lugar el toque característico de las iglesias ucranianas.

Passing through the gateway, one can see the area considered the heart of the memorial: an exact replica of the old Orthodox Christian chapel dedicated to Saint Michael the Archangel. Built of wood with a metal dome, its structure and design follow the Byzantine style, lending the site the distinctive character of Ukrainian churches.

En la parte interna de la capilla encontramos un pequeño museo donde se exhiben diferentes piezas que forman parte de la historia y cultura ucraniana como artesanías, bordados, imágenes religiosas, objetos litúrgicos así como placas y textos que cuentan la historia de la llegada de los inmigrantes ucranianos y de las personas más influyentes de su cultura.

Inside the chapel, there is a small museum exhibiting various pieces that are part of Ukrainian history and culture, such as handicrafts, embroidery, religious images, liturgical objects, as well as plaques and texts that tell the story of the arrival of Ukrainian immigrants and the most influential people in their culture.

Parte de los objetos que encontramos exhibidos dentro de la capilla son los famosos Pêssankas, que no son más que huevos pintados a mano con diferentes diseños y colores que simbolizan vida y prosperidad, lo que forma una parte importante de la cultura y tradición ucraniana.

Among the objects displayed inside the chapel are the famous Pêssankas, which are simply hand-painted eggs with different designs and colors that symbolize life and prosperity, forming an important part of Ukrainian culture and tradition.

A un lado de la capilla tenemos un campanario construido también en madera al estilo bizantino, el cual representa no solo la importancia de la inmigración de los ucranianos sino también su integración a estas tierras, resaltando su cultura y religión como partes fundamentales para mantener la unión de su comunidad.

To one side of the chapel we have a bell tower, also built of wood in the Byzantine style, which represents not only the importance of Ukrainian immigration but also their integration into these lands, highlighting their culture and religion as fundamental parts for maintaining the unity of their community.

Volviendo al tema de los Pêssankas en las áreas verdes detrás de la capilla encontramos una escultura de gran tamaño con la forma de este tradicional objeto, una obra creada por el artista curitibano Jorge Seratiuk.

Returning to the subject of the Pêssankas, in the green areas behind the chapel we find a large-scale sculpture shaped like this traditional object—a work created by the Curitiba-based artist Jorge Seratiuk.

Este memorial cuenta también con un hermoso espacio de áreas verdes que incluye flores que le dan un aspecto natural y colorido al memorial.

This memorial also features a beautiful green space with flowers that give it a natural and colorful appearance.

En estas áreas verdes encontramos también un pequeño monumento alusivo al Holodomor (hambruna sufrida en Ucrania durante los años 1932 y 1933). Este monumento es una réplica del memorial original ubicado en la ciudad de Kiev, Ucrania y está elaborado en granito por el escultor paranaense Elvo Benito Damo.

In these green areas, we also find a small monument alluding to the Holodomor (the famine suffered in Ukraine during 1932 and 1933). This monument is a replica of the original memorial located in the city of Kyiv, Ukraine, and is made of granite by the Paraná-born sculptor Elvo Benito Damo.

No cabe duda de que este memorial es un lugar lleno de historia y que además honra la cultura y las tradiciones ucranianas, algo que podemos encontrar en cada detalle de este hermoso lugar.
