A Visit At The Local Clinic + Typical 1970's Residential Area

My left ear was clogged. I went to a local public clinic to get it unclogged yesterday. It took two visits. Today's was successful. A nurse flushed it. I usually go to a private clinic as getting an appointment is faster and the staff are perhaps somewhat more competent on average. I will get a bill of about €40 in the mail that covers all treatment for the next year.

Finland has a healthcare system that has public and a private sector providers. Practically all expensive specialized health care is provided by the five university hospitals and a dozen or so regional central hospitals. The treatments are not free but the bills are usually nominal. There are private sector providers for demanding specialized care, too, but they provide mostly elective treatments such as plastique surgery when it is not necessary for normal life.

Most of the private sector healthcare providers treat fairly minor cases covered by cheap insurance policies bought by working people for their children or that are paid for by their employers. The annual cost of such policies is typically in the hundreds of euros. Students in tertiary education are another group covered by a system of their own. The costs are covered as part of student body membership fees.

It's another rainy day. I'm going to have to put off cleaning the rest of the windows.

This one looks like a typical 1970's residential area.
