Steam Engine + Another Train

There is a company that operates a steam engine and a number of vintage cars for tourists in the summer. Today, my city was on along their route. Here's some shots I took.

Taken from about 1 km away. The train is at the station.

As I was a child, the last steam engines in Austria rolled.

I think the last ones were in regular service maybe in the early 1960s. I know a lot of the diesel engine models still in use were manufactured between the mid-1960s and the mid-1980s.

So many good memories wrapped up with steam trains, nice to see the old train running, nostalgia on high!

They're quite something, aren't they. But for serious travel I do prefer modern trains for speed and comfort.

Always nice to know there are people still keeping them going in many countries around the world as 'special' trains, good place to remember the past, see how far we have come.

Trains changed the world, how we live as social beings, changed eating habits along with much else. People moved to cities at the start of Industrial Revolution, housewives battled the soot fall out planning washing days, spending hours keeping homes clean.

Many inventions still in use today, the history is fascinating as are the old steamers themselves, how we tackle good with bad situations.

Then the gorgeous smell of old wooden coaches with leather upholstery, the lull of wheel clacking across tracks, steam trains very much our past and future.
