Social Media Didn't Change My Life—The Way I Chose To Use It Did.

I can't deny the impact the media has had on my life. It has become one of the most important part of my life, but then it's not the way a lot of people will think, but I'm sure I will have those who can relate.

Beyond all that the media has to offer, the likes of entertainment, news, and all, to me the media has quietly become my lecture room, workplace, business outlet and even my support system.

On this media space I've seen quiet a lot of opportunities, one of which is #hive, which is helping me greatly. Also, I've got to meet amazing people, most of which are strangers and learn good and practical skills from them. On this media space as well, I've been able to be a part of diverse opportunities that would never have reached/found me offline.

On this media space as well I've gotten to meet amazing people who have in one way or the other helped, challenged, advised, and shaped me. Not to talk about countless random posts about success, failure, life, school, business, tech and all that I've come across and has helped me. And that is one of the beauty of social media, it aids the quick passage of information, ideas and all, meaning it helps all of these things travel farther and reach a wider audience.

Just like we were treating a topic relating to AI recently, where we all said AI is a tool and should remain one, same goes to the media too. Social media is a tool and it should remain one, once it crosses that line it starts to dictate and control us, and that is how it becomes harmful. And one of the things I do to help myself is to make sure that anytime I'm opening an app on my phone, I'm doing it for a purpose and not out of boredom.

Yes, the likes of Tiktok. You can't see me on Tiktok unless I'm making a video or searching for something, nah. It's not my thing. Facebook is a place I also love to be and I'm not there out of boredom but to check some reliable pages for news, happenings and all, and on some occasion to watch reels and just get myself to laugh. Talk of WhatsApp too, even though I'm always online you cannot know, you have to call me on Whatsapp to get my attention there, I don't even receive notifications.

There's something about life that most people do not know, we do it the other way round, whereas life is meant to be enjoyed and experienced first before sharing. But today, we've shared everything online and there's absolutely nothing to enjoy anymore. At times, just take a walk without taking pictures, it allows you to focus on nature and the things you most times do not see. Some other time, just eat your best meal, even if you take a picture or do a short video, you don't have to rush to post, enjoy the moment first.

The social media is just like a window in a house, which is meant to just view the outside world and such, which we will eventually close to return back to the house... our lives.
