PAIN OF LOVE~The Ink Well Prompt January Contest

Hilary is a young man in his mid 30s. He is jovial and gets people's attention as fast as flash. He has a positive vibe and this makes it difficult for anyone to ignore him when he initiates a chat. Hilary is so generous that even church rats can attest to his big heart.

He thought it's best time for him to get a woman as a wife. One day, he went to a party and that's how he met the woman that changed his personality. He was very vivid with his intentions and Lily pretentiously accepted his proposal.

After six (8) months of being in a relationship, Hilary felt it's the best time to make a move. He made a move by asking Lily to be his wife only to get the shock of his life. Lily betrayed his love for her by rejecting to marry him.

"I can't marry you Hilary, you are a good man, you shower me with everything and you have all the qualities a woman wants in a man but I can't marry a man who is not from my tribe". Lily said.

Hilary tried his best to talk Lily into accepting his proposal but to no avail. He built a fortress around his heart with his mind sealed never to get hurt again by a lady.

He had to relocate to another city far from his hometown where no one knew him. He had no friends, always by himself and hardly party or talk to ladies.

Not until one day, he met a lady on a bus. The bus had just one space left, and that only space was where he sat, beside was Queen. The Queen tried to engage in a conversation with him but he refused to get into any chat with her. But Queen's friendly attitude put him at ease, they were in deep conversation, laughing and enjoying each other's company.

Queen and Hilary exchanged contacts after alighting from the bus. They began talking and chatting on the phone. Hilary began enjoying Queen's company and they both told each other about their past.

After months of relationship, Hilary decided to make a move and this time he got a response although he wasn't very excited. "I want to finish my degree before getting married, I love you and would love to marry you if you will be patient". The Queen told him.

"Of course, I will wait if only you won't hurt my already broken heart"

"I just have one (1) year left and I will be done, my finger is itching for that ring to get in if you are willing". The Queen said sweetly.

Hilary gently slid the engagement ring into her finger and lifted her up and hugged her joyfully and the crowds roared in amusement and congratulated them. Gradually, the old Hilary personality that he swept under the carpet after Lily hurt his heart began to grow out beautifully like a flower.
