Earning Passive Income In Splinterlands....

avatar

As with playing battles on a regular basis is time consuming enough it helps to find ways to earn additional Splinterlands tokens with other methods. There are only 24 hours in a day and I would not be using my time efficiently if I did not leverage the other opportunities out there that can earn me more Splinterlands tokens. Today's post we look at what all those other methods that I use are.

Liquidity Pools

To earn liquid SPS I stake in the DEC:SPS liquidity pool. This is also where I hold my liquid DEC in anticipation for use when buying or investing in new Splinterlands assets. Holding DEC alone in a wallet won't earn me any additional assets but holding it in a liquidity pool will.

Major drawback to participating in liquidity pools are the impermanent losses. For example if I put in 1,000 DEC and 1,000 SPS into the liquidity pool and over time DEC value drops while SPS rises and I make a withdraw I will likely get more DEC and less SPS than I originally put in. This is known as impermanent losses. I have less of DEC while more of SPS or vise versa. The risk of investing in liquidity pools. Again on the flip side I earn daily SPS for providing the liquidity.

Staking SPS

My majority of SPS I have staked which gives around 20% APR on SPS + Vouchers. I continue to stake more SPS with earnings in brawls and reinvesting large sums of SPS I can pull when lucky enough on daily rewards. Bottom line this is the most common method in Splinterlands to earn passively.

Rentals

Snap shot above is like a trip down memory lane with all those legacy cards. I have multiple low level duplicates and simply rent them out to earn passive income. The income I earn I tend to re-invest them back by purchasing more cards and growing my account.

In the beginning of rentals I was able to yield in the tune of 50k - 60k DEC a season. Now it is cut down to more than half that but its still passive income. If you are wondering why I do not max level the cards and use them myself to progress further into the game the simple answer is I do not have enough cards to max level the cards.

My original plan was to continue renting and use the earned income to re-invest in cards to level up but the earnings were never enough to make the purchases and in time new series of cards came out that simply overpowered the older versions such as how Chaos over powered Alpha/Beta. I decided to just keep the lower level Alpha/Beta and continue to earn rental income.

Other Methods

Owning SPS Nodes are other ways to earning passive income. The upfront cost to a node is high and the daily yield is not enticing enough for me to invest in a node.

Yet for players who look long term it maybe well worth owning nodes.

In the future when land expansion rolls out in full force there will likely be opportunities to rent out lands just like how we currently can rent out cards. The potential seems high and I can't wait to see it happen.

Which methods Best?

As of now majority of my passive income are staking SPS. It is also the most straight forward as I earn SPS, Vouchers, and GLX tokens. The overall yield is not as high as participating in liquidity pools, but no risk in lost of tokens with staking SPS versus potential of impermanent loss with liquidity pools.

To balance out my methods of passive income I earn DEC through card rentals. That DEC earned I usually save and pair up with liquid SPS to partake in liquidity pools. The amount in pools are a fraction of what I have in staked SPS but when I accumulate enough liquidity and see opportunities to purchase cards I tend save up more first.

Until next time thanks for reading!!!

I like the SPS staking pools and the liquidity pools. The liquidity pools I am in are generally the ones paired with SWAP.HIVE. I just think that it more stable and I don't mind having more or less Hive.
