My Opinions on Battles Format

In the past week or so I have not really wanted to speak about the latest rejected proposals since everyone who plays the game is aware of it. Yet I feel torn about it all since it’s creating a great divided among players.

The well meaning intent to update battle formats was so that rewards can be spread more fairly. Yet what has come of this is that when players have the option to choose it tends to be a fierce competition that is creating negative results.

The current format of battles are not perfect but it’s been setup this way for years and slight modifications were made along the way. Players have generally adopted to that format. Now with the proposals out front in center it means the Splinterlands developers want the public to choose how the battles should be play.

Freedom Always Has A Cost

Allowing players to vote toward how the game should be played came with a cost. The freedom to choose is turning out to be impacting the game negatively.

Can we go back to letting Splinterlands decided what is best and work our way through it all? Hard to close a can of worms when already open. In addition I think having the Dao was meant for things like this. Yet it’s all having negative effects.

If we let Splinterlands selecting an option and execute it can be some sort of test run for players to vote for. Of course a battle in voting may still ensue but at the least we are making a compromise. Having proposal after proposal rejected has only made created more hostilities.

Legacy cards have reap a good amount of rewards over the years and to date it’s still can benefit toward lands use and events. However to continue to grow the game with real players I think legacy cards benefits could drop in order to compensate for influx of newer card sets.

As Matt has said before newer cards I rented to perform better than legacy cards in battles so to attract new players. If we play through this it means older cards are less valued in the market but we have land game to compensate.

I can also foresee new side games be developed that can bring better light to legacy cards. Yet this would be more likely outcome if third party developers created the games. Splinterforge is a good example. If we have more of those the overall Splinterlands ecosystem maybe able to accommodate all.

That is a greater challenge to have so much be done in an instant. It’s really the growing pains of a game and we are front and center with the latest down votes on proposals.

Forget the Bad and See the Good

I have mainly played Splinterlands since 2019. Through the years I have not really at any time felt I wanted to give up in the game because it was the first game I ever played where I was earning real value.

As the years grew so did the amount of players and amount of assets. To keep up with increasing value for assets we come to a point where gameplay is being adjusted. This has been happening for years. From one new set to the next the battle formats and rewards distribution has changed.

Why can’t it continue to evolve despite not all getting what we want? For the benefit of the game’s growth it will need to be adjusted from time to time. Now if only we as players can come to an agreement to what that is?

I know I have been ranting through this post but it’s frustrating to see how players who are playing the game can be so far apart with each other. Splinterlands has come a long way from where it was when it started. I am hoping we somehow get through this and come out better.

Until next time thanks for reading!!!

I haven't been playing tournaments so I don't have much of an opinion but I do think that things don't stay the same forever. The alpha/beta tournaments just doesn't make as much sense if there are so few people joining so distributing the rewards a bit more fairly does make sense. I will be skipping on the proposals since I am not playing tournaments though.

The alpha/beta tournaments are there to benefit players who those cards. Think longer term implications here in the future Untamed and Chaos could be restricted in tournament play too. Bottom line it’s difficult to balance old and the new. Not sure if there is a clear path.
