Splinterlands - My Plans For Part 3 Chaos Packs General Sales

With hours left before presale part 2 ends there will be a little under a week until part 3 begins. As a recap part 3 will entail 12 million packs available for purchase by general public without any vouchers required. However in order to receive bonus packs players need to supply the vouchers equivalent to the amount of bonus packs they will earn in their bulk purchases. For example,

purchase 100 packs an in order to get 10 additional bonus packs buyer has to include 10 vouchers in payment total to get all 110 packs. Without the vouchers they will not earn the 10 additional bonus packs.

Buy Packs or Buy Individual Cards

At current prices of individual Chaos Legion cards it will cost around $10,300 for a full max set. In prior posts I have looked at it and compared to older sets and have concluded at current prices a max Chaos set is pretty reasonable.

$10,300 / $0.0040262/DEC = 2,558,243.51 DEC

That is how much DEC I would have to invest at current prices to obtain a max Chaos deck. Of course this will change as the days progress but I am hoping since 12 million packs of cards are up for grabs there will be players who will be offering individual cards on the open markets to lower the overall prices just a tad more.

On the other side with what if I spent $10,300 on booster packs?

At 2,575 packs that would be equal to 12,875 bcx individual cards. On top if I can spend enough to purchase 515 vouchers I automatically can get an additional 515 packs without spending more credits. How I would obtain 515 vouchers is still in question? There are whales in the game that may offer loans but this exceeds the amount of purchasing a max deck and further more is a gamble for me as I take on debt to try to pull cards that are worth enough to pay back the loan.

I am personally leaning toward purchasing the individual cards rather than buy packs. Main reasons to go this route:

  1. I can target my purchases, for instance 400 commons to max the card is easier buying 400 cards on the market than to open enough random number of packs to obtain 400 of the same cards.

  2. I want to spend the least amount to reach max deck. Even though there is the benefit of obtaining gold foil cards from pack opens it can not out weight on avoiding the cost of taking out a loan. The loan will include interest which in the long run will cost me more to get to max deck. Also if I can not obtain max deck through individual card purchases I don't have deal with paying back a loan. Finally I may not have enough personal time to play the game daily therefore my ROI will drop significantly for days I miss playing. Not having a loan gives me the flexibility to decide if I want to play rather than the need to play.

  3. I can break out the payments on my own schedule. Loans are usually given back in a set time. While if I spend only on what I have I can always decide when and where to spend it. I have a reasonable idea of what cards I wish to own first and last in the Chaos series so if I have sufficient funds I would by the cards I want first and gradually add at my own pace.

Conclusions

There are so many reasons I wish to have a max level deck and the main one is I want to compete in Splinterlands. For almost 3 years I have been scrapping by with a mix and match set of cards with some max level cards but majority are around level 3 and lower.

After comparing the Chaos cards to older series for a few weeks now I feel I can be a much better player with max deck not only in rank battles but also in tournaments. If I do play better I can then raise my league ranking and in turn earn more DEC in the long run. This all then can be potential earning I can use to purchase other series cards to max out those too. Yet the whole idea of trying to get a better player experience will come down to having more options to play with.

I look forward to the coming third installment in Chaos packs sales. It is not exactly clear yet but whale buyers will have the first stab at purchasing from the bulk 12 million packs. If they purchase a big enough chunk it may leave very few packs to remain for rest of the players to purchase. This makes it somewhat of a concern for not only unable to purchase booster packs but also have to worry if whales hoard cards from getting into the circulation for resale. If this so happens so be it I will have to slowly but steadily purchase what I can on the market to get to a max Chaos set. Curious what are your plans come third pre-sale when it happens?

Until next time thanks for reading!!!

I'm probably going to buy packs. I'm primarily an investor and don't have time to follow the market to buy individual cards.

The main obstacle for me is buying the credits. Going the credit card/Paypal route involves ridiculously high fees. Going via another token involves a lot of complicated (for me) steps in and out of exchanges.

So I'm still sitting on the fence.

From my experiences with beta and untamed packs, when buying the packs you get a lot of unwanted cards and a big mess in your deck lol. Just the time necessary to sort out all the cards that you want to keep, upgrade, sell or rent is discouraging me from buying packs. I prefer to buy the cards that I really want from the market. In addition, if I do that cleverly with bids on peakmonsters for example, it gets probably cheaper.

Thanks for your thoughts on the matter!
You are really around for a long time!

Actually, I am really happy, that the packs didn't sell out so fast! So I could also get some and there are still a lot of packs left. Nobody could know how this would turn out exactly!

Keep up the great work!

Cheers,
