[Eng/Esp] Restoring a book/Restaurando un libro

Greetings people from the community. For this occasion I come to present a restoration work of a book, in which its front and back covers were destroyed with the passing of time, this due to the poor quality of the paper because with just touching it you could tear it easily. So I proceeded to change all this following these steps:

Saludos gente De la comunidad. Para esta ocasión les vengo a presentar un trabajo de restauración de un libro, en que su portada y contraportada se fueron destrozando con el pasar del tiempo, esto debido a la pésima calidad del papel ya que con apenas tocarlo podías desgarrarlo con facilidad. Así que procedí a cambiar todo esto siguiendo estos pasos:

1- Due to the above I decided to remove the entire cover of the book, partly using my own hands for the front and back cover, and in another, with the use of a cutter applying it to the spine, in order to leave it completely clean.

1- Debido a lo dicho anteriormente decidí quitarle toda la cubierta del libro, en parte usando mis propias manos para la portada y contraportada, y en otra, con el uso de un cutter aplicandolo en el lomo, con el fin de dejarlo totalmente limpio.

2- Then I started to create a cover made with cardboard, which would have these measures: 21 cm long by 28 cm wide. This will be folded in half and attached with liquid glue to one side of the spine.

2- Seguidamente comencé a crear una cubierta hecha con cartulina, y que tendria estas medidas: 21 cm de largo por 28 cm de ancho. Esta se doblará por la mitad y se anexara con pega líquida a un costado del lomo.

3- Make one more cover, which will be visible and will give greater resistance. It measures 14 cm wide by 21 cm long. We glued this one to the other one that was made with cardboard.

3- Realice otra cubierta más, la que será visible y dará a su vez mayor resistencia. Sus medidas fueron de 14 cm de ancho por 21 cm de largo. Esta la pegamos a la otra que fue hecha con cartulina.

And so that it can be well fixed while the glue is drying, several heavy books were placed on top of it.

Y para que pueda quedar fijamente bien al estar secándose el pegamento le fue colocado varios libros de gran peso encima.

4- In this step our book will get a new shape, and not for that reason we will leave it like that but rather for decoration and identification purposes we will do two things: get an image (a magazine clipping) and write with our own hands the name of the book and the author - if you want to put into practice the lettering this is your perfect opportunity.

4- En este paso ya nuestro libro va obtenido una nueva forma, y no por eso lo dejaremos así sino más bien por cuestiones de decoración e identificación del mismo se harán dos cosas: conseguir una imagen (un recorte de revista) y escribir con nuestras propias manos el nombre del libro y el autor -si quieres poner en práctica el lettering es tu oportunidad perfecta.

5- Finally, we will cover the three visible sides of the book with contact paper (transparent plastic with adhesive) to protect everything and give it a better appearance. And for the bag measures the total sum of the front cover + spine + back cover + 3 cm of tabs that are added to the length and width; example, 28 cm (front cover plus back cover) + 2.5 cm (spine) + 3 cm (tabs: 1.5 cm each)= 33.5 cm wide.

5- Por ultimo, recubriremos las tres caras visibles del libro con papel contacto (plástico transparente con adhesivo) para que proteja todo y de también mejor aspecto. Y para las medidas de saco la sumatoria total de la portada + lomo + contraportada + 3 cm de pestañas que se agregan a lo largo y ancho; ejemplo, 28 cm (Portada más contraportada) + 2,5 cm (lomo) + 3 cm (pestañas: 1,5 cm cada una)= 33,5 cm de ancho.
