Finding God: Journey To The End Of The Earth

I have always wanted to see the end of the earth.

When I was little stories about the solar system got me fascinated. As the teacher tried his or her best to make us cram into our tiny brains the name of the nine planets - it was nine back then - that existed, I couldn't help but wonder if all the stories were true.

In the night, I would stand outside staring at the blue sky for minutes and wondering if I could at least see one of the planets from where I was. Every glittering star, every shooting star that runs across, every perceived movement, even the movement - or lack of - of the moon makes me happy. I wish to see beyond the sky. I wish to know what is out there.

My curiosity become heightened when my Sunday School teacher told me God resides in heaven and Satan was banished to hell. So, I asked, "Where is heaven? Where is hell?" Without wasting time, she responded, "Heaven is up there," pointing to the sky. "But, for hell, I can't really say if it is down there or not," she admitted.

As a little child that I was, her words were enough for me. Heaven is up there, right in some place beyond the sky. So, if I look a little closer, I might just catch a glimpse of the wonderfulness of God and His abode, heaven. I wanted to see more than a cloudy sky. I wanted to see God.

Whenever I see a shape forming out in the sky, I assure myself it was something celestial. I could remember when I saw the cloud form into the shape of a man and a woman. A friend of mine who was no stranger to my sky watching hobby came closer and said, "Those two are Jesus and Mary." I didn't doubt him, afterall we were made to believe both of them are already in heaven. It makes sense that they are appearing in the sky to reassure us. That was what my little brain could conclude upon.

As I grew older, I developed a keen interest in Geography. I listened attentively in class - especially the classes where celestial bodies were discussed. I took my time to study the nine planets, maybe they could finally give a hint as to where God actually resides. While I was at it, news of the discovery of where the Garden of Eden was filtered through.

Some wise men already said the Garden of Eden is the new heaven. But why is the Garden of Eden found on earth? Can heaven be on earth? Is that even possible?

These findings not only heightened my curiosity, they compounded my confusion. At some point, my questions started changing.

Does God really exist? If He does, where is He? How did He become so powerful to be able to control billions of lives on earth?

As much as I've asked these questions since I was little, I haven't really seen anyone come out with hard facts and figures to show me where God resides. All I've heard is that He lives in Heaven. But then, where is Heaven? No one has been able to give a definitive answer to that. It's always been about assumptions and prophecies. If one asks too many questions, one will be told one lacks faith in God. Due to that, I've learnt to keep my thoughts within me.

However, if I was to go on a dream adventure, firstly, it would be to find the end of the earth. Since I spent a significant part of my childhood staring at the sky, I would like to know where it ends. Surely, the sky is not just some ubiquitous blanket that has no beginning and no end. Or, is it? Surely, the earth must have an end somewhere.

Geography taught me that the earth is elliptical in shape, so it will have no significant endpoint and no last corner. A quick fact check online shows a place in the northern district of Burgess Hill, West Sussex, England is called World's End. That doesn't really sound convincing. But, why am I thinking the earth should have an endpoint? Am I being delusional?

Anyway, for adventure's sake, I would like to visit the so-called World's End located in West Sussex for a start. Maybe I might find a clue. Secondly, I really like to know where God is. A lot of scientists out there will tell you we are birthed by evolution; a religious person will tell you the earth and everything in it was the handiwork of the all powerful God.

Unfortunately for me, I have a stake in both sides. And, at times, it gets very confusing. Why can't I just find God and put an end to the nonstop bickering of the science world about the non-existence of Him?

An adventure to the end of the earth - if it exists - is a good start. However, an adventure that will literally lead to finding God physically is one that will make me incredibly happy. It is one that is very high on my list of priorities. But, it's an adventure that will most likely remain a wishful thinking. There is no finding God physically. No one really knows where He is.
