Agriculture, a sure way of eradicating poverty in Ghana.

Every day, I sit down to think hard about how we may assist alleviate poverty in Ghana and across Africa. Enhancing agricultural productivity simply by making the agricultural industry more appealing is one of the better responses that comes to mind. In Ghana, concentrating on agriculture and farming is among the greatest methods for individuals to come out of poverty.

Unfortunately, many African nations' poorest inhabitants live in rural regions. Our political leaders pay little attention to developing such regions. Many farmers presently still operate agriculture in the exact manner that individuals did years ago. There has been little progress to that effect. Most farmers largely depend on weather patterns. Cocoa production has been a terrific method for us as a nation to generate some nice money. Farmers that grow these cash crops do not have access to the finest agricultural methods. I'm always pleased to see farms like these where crops are cultivated organically.

Poor agricultural activities do not encourage farming. There is little or no irrigation or other contemporary agricultural practises. Take into consideration that more than 70% of Africans live in rural regions. With changing climate, successive seasons of unforeseen draughts may produce mass starvation and massive misery in rural regions, severely affecting the agricultural business. When people in rural areas are without anything to do, they migrate to major cities and towns.

Ghanaian cocoa

They relocate to cities with no or little money and are forced to reside in slums as well as other temporary housing. After that, everything goes to hell.
Therefore, revolutionising agriculture and agricultural sectors is the most effective strategy to eliminate poverty. If more of Africans are farmers, it is absurd that they are also the poorest, particularly in Sub-Saharan Africa. And here is where African politicians make serious errors. I anticipate tremendous major shift if we make agricultural production and farming operations a national priority.

Our graduates in the agriculture sectors haven’t done us much good as most of them prefer to sit behind a desk in an office than move to the ground to build industrial and machinery farming

Perhaps this is because the agricultural industry isn't appealing enough to absorb them all. I think that if the government invests heavily in agriculture and makes it appealing, many young graduates will want to put their efforts into making it a success. Thank you for your input, @tj4real.

Is rather unfortunate the government is not making agriculture an attractive venture to the youth…sometimes i can’t just fathom how we still export rice from foreign countries …

In a way we have always believed that our cocoa is our most priced assets. But it seems we have not used it to the full maximum. Ghana. I hope our leaders will stop using us and then one day use it to help us.
