One of life's many joys is having a beautiful and healthy friendship. Humans are social beings hence, we need friends, people we can rely on at different times of our lives.

Many have prided themselves in having good friendships both with same gender or with the opposite gender while others cannot even claim to have genuine friends at all (surrounding them are sycophants and flatterers). I'm truly glad for those who fall in the first category.

On a scale of one to ten with one being the minimum and ten maximum, I will say that genuine female friendships are rare, on a standing of 3.5.

I am not disputing the fact that there are no genuine female friendships, there are but I also agree that they rare. I say this because I have seen a lot of so called female friendships break down in ugly and nasty ways that disregard human dignity.

Imagine two female friends fighting along the street, tearing at each other's clothes and causing injury to each other and the sad part is that reason for that fight is not even worth it. They were fighting over the attention of a guy (eye roll).

What I am sharing is not a scene from a movie. It happened in plain sight of onlookers and passersby. Apparently, the guy had been dating the first girl for months but immediately she introduced her friend to him, his attention began to shift. He began to show a lack of boundary both physically and emotionally as his attention was now focused on his girlfriend's friend.

The result of that emotional affair was what that fight. This is just one of many scenarios where so called genuine female friendships were put to the test and failed. I can't seem to place my hands on it but why are some women so jealous of other women?

I totally believe that a healthy and genuine friendship can exist with any gender as long as clarity of purpose, vision and direction is established. More so, when two people are whole and complete, then they can compliment each other in friendship.

Because of the many horrific crashed female friendships, I can say that it has a level of influence over my decisions in making female friends. I would wait, observe and watch before I trust. Sometimes, I even go a bit further by giving simple tests to that person and when they pass my test, then they can be welcomed into the friendship zone with me.

The few genuine female friendships that I have encountered so far in life have been so encouraging because women are naturally resilient and once that genuine friend has got your back, she indeed has got your back.

Women are powerful and strong and when those vice emotions like envy, jealousy and bitterness are not out of the way, female friendships tend to thrive better and for a longer period.

Honestly, I love making friends and having female friends. I can boast of having some genuine female friends but we are not in the same locality. We only communicate via social media handles. Would I claim that my friendship is genuine had my friends been around me? I can't give a perfect reply to that but one thing is certain and that's the fact that I am genuinely their friend. I want the best for them. I want to celebrate with them, rejoice with them and even cry with them. I want to see my friends at the top and I believe that this is the foundation to a healthy relationship.
