A New Recipe From Japan: Tonkatsu

(Edited)
Greetings to you, my dear Hivers! I'm here to share another recipe of a dish from Japan. I've learned this recipe from our teacher and my dad loved this. He used to work in Japan and is still very fond of their foods.

Tonkatsu is one of the most beloved “western style” Japanese foods in Japan. It is pork chop breaded with flour, egg, and Panko (bread crumbs), then deep fried. It’s not the healthiest food but rather comfort food.
Let's start making our Tonkatsu

Ingredients needed:
For the Tonkatsu

  • 1-2 eggs
  • 1 cup panko or bread crumbs
  • oil for deep frying
  • 2 pork loin chops (about 1" thick, no bones)
  • 1/2 cup all purpose flour
  • salt
  • pepper

For the Sauce

  • Soy sauce
  • Ketchup

For the Tonkatsu:

Using the tip of the knife, make small cuts all over the pork.

Sprinkle some salt and pepper.

Flour the pork

Dip in the beaten egg and then in the bread crumbs.

Fry the breaded pork until it turns golden brown in the pan.

Cut it into 5-6 pieces.

For the Sauce:

You need a Worcestershire Sauce for this dish but I couldn't find one so I looked up in the internet to look for substitutes and here are the list.

I choose to use soy sauce + ketchup

And I added some sliced cucumber and there you have your tonkatsu.

What do you think of this dish? Comment down below! Thank you for stopping by! See you in my next post.

A similar dish is made in my country. But chicken is used instead of pork. In addition, we usually do not use soy sauce in the sauces we prepare.

I like both variants. Your dish too looks great.
