What's My Life As A Writer - Hive Save Lives
Good day everyone. This is a very interesting topic to write about, because writing is my life. I have been writing on Steemit and Hive platform for over 4 years now. Hive was forked out of Steemit, if some of you don't know what Steemit is or wondering why I mentioned Steemit. It was early 2018 when my writing journey begun and it has been nothing but a blessing to me.
I just finished my University studies and was waiting for my call up letter to serve my country for a period of one year. As a Nigerian graduate, you will have to serve your country for one year, before you can be able to enter the labor market. Many companies ask for the NYSC certificate(a certificate given to people who have served the country) before employment, so it is mandatory that you serve one's country, and it could be in section of the economy, such as the education section, agricultural section, finance section and others.
I was waiting for my call up letter and it took longer than expected, almost one year of waiting. I was bored and jobless as I can't use my Accounting certificate without getting my NYSC certificate first. My late friend from University days, Bright but popularly known as @onos in the platform was talking about a platform that is crypto based called Steemit. I asked him about it, and he introduced me into Steemit and that's the beginning of writing journey. My writing story can't be complete without me, mentioning @onos, such a great personality but left us so soon😌.
In a country where jobs are hard to find and the jobs available pay way below your efforts, writing became one of my main profession. I have written on different topics and communities, I have written STEM articles, Crypto Projects, Crypto Games, Movie Reviews, Reviews on Crypto Projects and even started Vlogs.
I have been able to move out of my family house and start a life on my own, through writing. It's not been easy but consistency is key and finding the right community that suits me, has been very important to me.
The past 6 to 7 months have been the worst period in my 4 years of writing, as I had a major mental breakdown when I was robbed. I have been trying to recover from it, but it's been difficult. I haven't been able to find that burning passion I once had, but I believe I'm getting getting there soon i.e getting my passion back.
One of the good thing of been a writer in Nigeria, is that you can be working from home and also been able to make friends from every corner of the world. I have met great people during my 4 years of writing, the list will be endless if I should name them all, but I will mention just a few, which are @samminator, @gentleshaid, @geekgirl, @lemouth, @crypto.piotr, @tfame3865, @starkerz, @eddiespino, @tamacvet, @alcibiades, @acidyo, @burlarj, @valchiz, @josediccus, @bozz, @zurich, @atma.love and many more. Funny enough I haven't met any of them in person, but they have added huge value to my life and for that I appreciate them all greatly.
Writing has been a life changer and @theycallmedan was 100% right with his tweet, which he said, "Hive Saves Lives", because Hive truly does save lives. @belemo a writer recently shared his story that he was able to pay his rent through Hive. Hive contributed to my current rented apartment, but how? I saved some Hive on Binance and I had been doing some trading and had other crypto assets. I saw where I wanted to rent, and changed the Hive tokens and other crypto tokens to my native currency(Naira) through P2P. That very day, my phone, laptop and ATM card were stolen and my bank account wiped out. I feel it's someone who knew me and knew the amount that just entered my account, that did that to me. So, how did Hive help me? I made a publication calling out for help, @atma.love came to my rescue, he loaned me $650 and I used it to get a second handed laptop, phone and rented my apartment, although I couldn't get the apartment I saw before the items were stolen because it was already rented out, but I'm still in a good apartment. Funny enough, I had never communicated to @atma.love before that publication, that's to show you how Hive isn't only about writing but a community filled with good people.
Writing is part of me and Hive is part of me. I'm thinking about creating a community in the nearest future on Web Design using Figma. This initiative will help a lot of Hivers get a chance to have an employable skills. People normally don't go through with self learning because there isn't engagement with people, it's just them. But when there's a community that creates weekly tasks, it would be more fun and there will be engagement within the community, which will make them develop their Web Design skill. I have to be able to give back to Hive the little I can. Watch out for that, in coming months.

I like this community, it means that the moderators put in the effort to check image source properly, Well done @bruno-kema you are doing a great job.
But I have to explain to you that, that is how Unsplash wants it's users to use it's images. When you download using Unsplash, you will see a link which they want you to copy and paste referencing that you used their image, I simply copied the link and pasted it here. I hope you understand. I feel Unsplash wants us the users to just reference the author of the image rather than the direct link of the image. They want people to browse through the authors page. For more understanding look at the image below
As you can see, I cited it as the site wanted it to be cited. But if you want me to further give direct link of the image, kindly let me, and I will do just that. I have been citing images this way for quite a while, and that's why I heard to explain myself and I understand that, different communities, different rules and I'm 100% ready to abide by all the rules of Hive Learners Community.

@bruno-kema I believe I have updated the image source, to the way you wanted them. You can check them out. You making use of Pexels, which is also like Unsplash, free image sites. Pexels also presents a link once the image is download but the link is different from Unsplash as they link directly to the page of the image. I guess I will be making use of Pexels whenever I'm writing in Hive Learners Community, so that, such image reference issue doesn't rise up again. Thanks

Yeah, you can say hectic 🙂. I'm glad to be back on track. You and the STEM community helped me to become the writer I am today. I learned free image sites, how to present my article and many more. So, you are worth the mention. I hope I can impress you like I did before with my STEM articles, it's been a long time, I wrote a STEM article, I'm a bit rusty in that aspect 😂.

I joined in steemit before but I don't understand it back then so I stopped using it and never write anything. I just realized that it was a great opportunity. Do you still write on steemit?

It's okay to look forward to the goodies, but don't make it the main objective, because you might be disappointed and quit too early. I have introduced many people to Hive, but they couldn't stay for long because they went only thinking about the reward. Try to make quality content and be consistent regardless of the reward, with time, your consistency will pay off.

It's so amazing to see how many lives HIVE has saved. Not hear covering bills, but as well creating solid relationships and communities that impact lives.
If only whoever that set you up had taken the time to understand and join HIVE, he/she could have been a much better person now.
And that community you want to start is such a brilliant idea. Just like you have said, it is very difficult for people to learn on their own but with a community that can help them grow, it'll sure go a long way for them.
Yeah, let's say beginning of August, the community should be running. I will try to explain and give assignments which which help motivate the community to learn and be good at Web Design. Hive truly save lives and also it a powerful place to meet different people from different part of the world.

Yeah, I moved on from such horrible incident by been grateful that I have life ahead of me. Dwelling in the past won't change the present and future positively, although it is easier said than done. I'm glad you moved on too and you are much better now.

Kudos to your for not letting someone steal your joy and ambition which is far more valuable that the physical items which were stolen.
