Greetings, community.

Wishing everyone a beautiful and blessed week.

If the Ladies of Hive community were to organize a lavish masquerade ball, which historical figure, accomplished author/artist, or fictional character would you dress up as for this imaginary event, and why?

The stories of historical figures have always been interesting—at least to me. They encompass everything from justice to injustice, and involve very young people engaging in activities that were considered normal for their time but, viewed today, make one think: "Wow, can you believe it?"

The character I would choose to dress as is Marie Antoinette. Her story has a bit of everything. Perhaps because she was a woman and due to the way she became queen, she found herself surrounded by such opulence that she let herself get carried away by youth and the handling of vast sums of money. Becoming queen at such a young age may have been the catalyst for her being perceived as a monarch who lived solely for pleasure, enjoying all the luxuries her aristocratic status afforded her.

Perhaps due to the era in which she lived, she was not consulted on decisions regarding the people; the populace complained that she did nothing to improve the economic conditions of the very people she served. On the contrary, she simply indulged in parties, luxuries, and travel. Her tastes were always expensive, and historically, she was viewed as a frivolous woman.

This character fascinates me because, despite belonging to a high-ranking noble family, her formal education left much to be desired. Ultimately, she did not leave a legacy of virtue; instead, many of her actions were deemed unacceptable—in fact, she met her end at the gallows. It was a tragic conclusion for her, yet her presence as the Queen of France has resonated throughout history and continues to do so.

Saludos comunidad.

A Marie Antoinette fancy dress costume featuring one of her lavish gowns would be brilliant, as you say; her story and her rise to become Queen of France still resonate today. Have a lovely evening @mercmarg

IF only Marie had considered seeing the safe confines of power and wealth going beyond her gates to see how her subjects lived under her rule. Would she have pitied the masses that lived in poverty. Would she seen how the the laws meant for good only turned to further oppress. The trappings of privilege are indeed a trap upon itself. As the saying goes, "The difference between villainess and heroine are the choices we decide to take."
An intriguing choice @mercmarg "Viva le France!"

Thank you, thank you very much @kerrislravenhill

I think her life story and her way of thinking didn't allow her to see things any other way—only from her own perspective

Bzzz, a queen who learned the hard way that honey tastes sweeter when it's shared with the hive, not hoarded for the throne room! 🐝👑 A bold and tragic choice — beautifully told, flaws and all.
