Back again, with a species from the plant world, beautiful, beneficial, and often overlooked, considered just a weed. But this plant offers wonders in its very form, with those tiny yellow flowers bordering spaces. Furthermore, it has uses in traditional medicine.

That's right, on my journeys, even when not hiking for exercise or other activities, but rather as a means of getting to places I usually go, like shops and other places, I never fail to observe my surroundings. There's always something beautiful to notice.

Here I share what my research on this little plant has revealed. Nature is beautiful in all its forms.

Scientific name: Tridax procumbens L. (Asteraceae family)

Common names: Wild daisy, common ... It has a central disc of tiny yellow flowers surrounded by 4 or 5 creamy-white to pale yellow ray florets (petals), each ending in three characteristic lobes or notches.

Where it is found (Habitat and Distribution)

It is found in tropical and subtropical regions worldwide, growing alongside annual crops, along roadsides, in pastures, fallow land, and wastelands.

Origin: It is native to tropical and subtropical areas of the Americas.

Distribution: It has spread widely throughout tropical and warm regions worldwide (Africa, Asia, Oceania).
Habitat: It is a very hardy weed and ruderal species.

It grows easily in:

Roadsides and verges, wastelands and disturbed soils, pastures, gardens, sidewalk cracks, and cultivated areas. It tolerates drought and poor or stony soils very well.

Uses

Traditional Medicine: In the ethnobiology and folk medicine of various regions, it is used topically and in infusions for its properties:
Healing and antiseptic: The juice or poultice of its crushed leaves is applied to minor wounds, bites, or superficial cuts.
Anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial: Traditionally used to relieve dermatological conditions or irritations.
Ecological: It acts as a constant source of nectar and pollen for a wide variety of small butterflies, bees, and pollinators.
Forage: In rural areas, it is often used as supplementary feed for livestock or small farm animals (such as rabbits).

Medicinal Uses

It is a plant used primarily in traditional Indian medicine. It is an annual or perennial weed native to Central America and is found throughout India, particularly in the regions of Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh.

It also possesses diverse pharmacological properties, including, but not limited to, immunomodulatory, antioxidant, antihepatotoxic, analgesic, antidiabetic, anti-inflammatory, antifungal, and antimicrobial activities. Since ancient times, this species has been used in Ayurvedic medicine in India. Various substances, such as oils, teas, and poultices, have been prepared using this plant. The species' usefulness is likely due to the plant's defense mechanisms and secondary metabolites such as flavonoids, alkaloids, tannins, carotenoids, and saponins, which have been scientifically analyzed.
