We previously covered the Fire & Regret ruleset in a previous battle mage secrets post. Not much has changed since then. We have had the introduction of the new Rebellion set which introduces five monsters with the Return Fire ability, four of which gain the Return Fire ability at level one. Therefore, your options have increased. To recap what the ruleset is about - the Fire & Regret ruleset gives all monsters the Return Fire ability. At the core of the Fire & Regret strategy lies a balance between offense and defence. Players now to think twice whether deploying their favorite range monsters is worth the risk of doing damage vs the damage reflected by the monster. Defensively, this is where Reflection Shield plays a significant role in exhibiting resilience against this counter damage. Offensively, Amplify ability will help you get most of the Return Fire ability and do more damage.

This battle was always going to be an uphill battle. I was up against a very strong opponent with a legendary summoner, The Peakrider, and three legendary monsters. Between Bera Dallin, Kralus and Iziar -- their total health at the start of the battle was 42 with 11 armor. So, there was a slim chance of me getting a victory here, but I did give it a fair showing. Silvershield Assassin and its Poison damage came in so clutch by doing a lot of residual damage to the opposition. I think the battle would have turned out differently if I did not have to deal with those legendary monsters. Also, I should have put the Shieldbearer in position one, maybe that would've helped. But, what can I learn from this battle? I need more higher-level monsters in my collection -- haha!

Do You Like the Fire & Regret Ruleset? Why or Why Not?

The beauty of the Fire & Regret ruleset is every player gets to experience this ability and see it plays out mechanically on the battlefield. It is an ability with only two summoners having the Return Fire ability (Lir Deepswimmer and Ilthain), but there are 26 monsters that have the ability across many different levels (e.g., Centauri Mage). Biggest drawback of the Fire & Regret ruleset is that players that have relied on cheaper range monsters by default will struggle in this ruleset. Therefore, it will require a change of strategy and deploying magic or melee monsters (Sneak, Opportunity) to negate the Return Fire ability damage.
