Every Monster Is Born Again And Its Not What I Expected | Splinterlands #336

This week's battle mage secrets focuses on the Born Again Ruleset.

Ruleset Details

The Born Again gives all monsters the Rebirth ability and therefore gives all monsters the ability to resurrect with one health and whatever armor they started the battle with. Previously this ability was only reserved for those with Runis, but with this ruleset, everyone can experience the Rebirth ability. The Rebirth ability synergizes greatly with abilities that give you defence against any form of damage so targeting monsters or summoners with Divine Shield (The first time the Monster takes damage it is ignored) and Void Armor (Magic attacks hit this Monster's armor before its Health) or buffing stats when a monster dies like the Martyr (When this Monster dies, adjacent Monsters get +1 to all stats) and Scavenger (Gains 1 max health each time any monster dies) abilities. Also, if you do not have monsters with these abilities, then it is important to include monsters with high armor. While they may not be able to counter magic damage unless you have summoners like Lorna Shine and Grandmaster Rathe, having high armor does give you more chance at survivability.

• Alric Stormbringer (summoner): +1 magic damage to all friendly monsters.
• Sea Monster: primary melee tank with Heal ability.
• Prismatic Energy: support magic tank to protect the backline.
• Captain Ghost: support magic damage with healing hexes.
• Mermaid Healer + River Nymph + Crustacean King: provides healing and armor buffs as well as providing magic and range damage.

Did your strategy work? What will you try differently next time?

This battle highlights why having protection against magic damage is so important. My opponent had a gold foil Grandmaster Rathe and therefore all the opposition monsters had the Void Armor ability. With all this said, I still gave it a fair showing and if I had a few monsters or summoners with Divine Shield or Void Armor this would have turned out differently. Nonetheless, I learned a ton from this battle, and it just shows that even in defeat, there is a lot to learn from splinterlands battles.

Not many players are going to be able to afford a Runi (which does have the Rebirth ability) and therefore the Born Again ruleset allows all players to experience another gameplay element within the splinterlands ecosystem. This ruleset also opens the doors to many diverse kinds of synergies and strategies therefore giving a little bit of everything for every type of splinterlands player. Also, any ruleset that allows me to utilize my favorite Martyr monster, Iziar, is a huge plus in my books.
