We took him to the vet, and the diagnosis confirmed a severe stomach infection. They rehydrated him and prescribed an intravenous treatment with antibiotics and deworming medication for several days. Having it done at the clinic was very expensive, so the only option was to take the treatment home. With some effort, I managed to buy the treatment, but the real worry came later: how do I insert an IV into a little dog’s vein and get him to stay still so I could administer the medications over those days? 😰 In the midst of it all, I called a neighbor who’s a doctor and another neighbor who’s a nurse, and thank God, between the two of them, they helped me set up the IV. Those were very stressful days, making sure the IV didn’t come out and arming myself with patience so he would accept food and water. The first few days he wouldn’t eat anything; he could only eat watery rice with chicken broth or boiled chicken to settle his stomach. Little by little, he began to trust me—because at first, as soon as I got close, he’d run away, though he never growled at me. So, as the days went by, he started wagging his little tail and letting me pet him just a little bit at a time, hehehe. He was finally accepting human contact! 🥰

Lo llevamos al veterinario y el diagnóstico confirmó una severa infección en el estómago. Lo hidrataron y le recetaron un tratamiento intravenoso con antibióticos y desparasitante por varios días. Hacerlo en la clínica era muy costoso, así que la única opción era llevar el tratamiento a casa.Con esfuerzo, logré comprar el tratamiento, pero la verdadera preocupación vino después ¿cómo ponerle la vía en la vena a un perrito y lograr que se quedara quieto para pasarle las medicinas durante esos días? 😰 En medio de todo, llamé a un vecino médico y a otra vecina enfermera y a Dios gracias entre los dos me tendieron la mano para colocar la vía. Fueron días de mucho stress, vigilando que la vía no se le saliera y armándome de paciencia para que aceptara la comida y el agua. Los primeros días no quería nada; solo podía comer arroz aguadito con caldo de pollo o pollo cocido para asentar el estomago. Poco a poco, empezó a confiar en mi, porque al principio apenas me acercaba, salía corriendo, eso sí; nunca me gruñó. Así, con el pasar de los días, empezó a moverme la colita y a dejarse acariciar de a poquito, jejeje. ¡Por fin estaba aceptando el contacto humano ! 🥰

It took him about a month and a half to make a full recovery, and these days, I’m lucky enough to see him every now and then; he’s still living with the same man. Osito has a bit of a grumpy look on his face, hehehe—he doesn’t get along with everyone yet, but he’s learning to socialize with people and get along better with other dogs. I can’t even begin to describe how happy he gets when he sees me—so much so that one day I took him home and he went straight to his favorite spot next to the couch; it was as if he’d remembered the days when he was nursed back to health and treated with love. 💖
I’ll keep sharing stories here about other animals that have crossed my path. Of course, like everything else, some have a happy ending like Osito’s, and others, not so much… but I think they all deserve to be told, because each one has taught me life lessons. ✨

Su recuperación total tardó como un mes y medio, hoy en día, tengo la dicha de verlo de vez en cuando; sigue viviendo con el mismo señor. Osito tiene cara de poco amigos jejeje, aún no se da con todo el mundo, pero está aprendiendo a socializar con las personas y a llevarse mejor con otros perritos. No les puedo explicar la alegría que siente al verme, tanto así que un día lo llevé a casa y fue directo a su rincón favorito al lado del sofá; era como si hubiese recordado los días en que fue curado y tratado con amor. 💖
Me animaré a seguir compartiendo por aquí otras historias de animalitos que se han cruzado en mi camino. Claro, como todo; algunas tienen un final feliz como la de Osito, y otras, no tanto... pero creo que todas merecen ser contadas, porque cada una de ellas me ha dejado lecciones de vida.✨
