A Filtered Unfiltered Life - My Take On Filters

I saw this week's first topic that was chosen and I was like "Talk to me directly people of Hive learners" πŸ˜‚ because yes! I can be used as a case study for your ideas to write for this prompt. Well, not a very good case study depending on where you stand regarding this topic if you'll read further.

Filters are cool, they are different, and they bring in another perspective of a thing or someone but...

Hear me out on what I think about them for myself and others who use them.

I can still remember the first time I got a phone and was taught how to edit a picture of mine after using wacky camera to take it. I was so overjoyed that I literally took a picture of anything I saw and edit all of them out of fun and trying out new features. Filtered images look good, I want to believe you'll agree with me. They do but there's always a negative side to things like this.

Do I apply filter to make yourself look better?

Oh yes I do and a lot of times actually but not to look better I'd like to add and I've been less a fan of it for a while now because I've come to know my worth behind those filters. While I'll enjoy trying out filter features, I tend to share my originals more on social networks because I know whatever I share is a contribution to my identity to whoever knows me for what they see on site (not the physical me).

I would share filtered images with friends offline and online but that would be after a hundreds of Unfiltered pictures because yes, I like the way I look even if I'm not the most beautiful. For the fact that I know when and where to use Filtered images, I won't count myself as one who is a huge fan of it and so I know very much well to keep my life original as much as possible anywhere I find myself.

Who says filters changes who I am anyways? I still see my face clearly on all the edits I do except skin colour change which isn't much to me since many know my real complexion, would be a good filter if it gets rid of my "Merit's face, shape and maybe how I smile" totally πŸ˜‚ just kidding!

Do I feel there is anything wrong with this?

Yes, there is but that is only when one's photos everywhere are all filtered with no real thing to show who they really are. Photos are taken for memories but it's pretty obvious that there's more to why people take pictures nowadays and one of it to is to live a life they don't have on social media through pictures.

I've seen a lady who edit her picture until she was in a popular boutique shopping for expensive wears πŸ˜‚ it was so hilarious but that is it, some people want to send the wrong message with the excuse that they don't want to settle for what they have and they think showing such lives will bring luck to them.

So yeah, it is a total wrong when it is lifestyle thing... Living a fake life on a constant.

I have never been deceived by those who uses filters

Maybe it's because I'm a lady or maybe it's because I know what filters can do, it's just a hard one for me to get deceived by anyone who uses filters. I saw a Tiktok video some days ago and the guy was dancing on a hill so freely when it was obvious that he would fall off easily... I figured immediately that it was all edited.

If I've ever been deceived with photos is having someone not take a full picture but always a selfie and I was shocked to see that the person had bad looking legs (no offence) but one is bound to be found out no matter how hard they try to use filters to cover up so why the bother?!

I take filters to be some invention to use for fun, not make it one's life, it gets unreal and not so cool at that point. So yeah, I use filters but only for fun and to try out options.

Sincerely speaking, I believe based on your explanations, you gave me new insight to this topic by putting a boundary between positive usage of filters and negative usage of filters.

Just like anything that brings about pleasure, usage of filter comes about obsessive behaviour if used for the wrong reasons..

A lot of people are walking around the street these days being a complete shadow of who they are or who they were for the sake of looking like something they are not, it is quite disheartening the reality most especially the female gender have chosen to live.

That is why you see a lot of them on tiktok and Instagram with picture captions that tells a different story from their real identify.

As long as usage of filters doesn't influence the perspective we have about ourselves, i believe there is nothing bad about it. Just my perspective though.

Thanks for sharing

And I agree with that perspective of yours, there's the good sides of it until it is used wrongly and that is prioritizing a fake life

I totally agree. Filters are fun to use. And it's ok to use it if the intention is not to deceive people. Thanks fornsharing you thoughts.

You are right, you know too much of everything is bad and I like how you make your appearance on social media authentic and original making it easy for both those that know you in person and those that don't to identify you when there see you without much thought if the image is edited or not.

Exactly and it's actually nice to know that you feel good about yourself without filters... Nothing like natural beauty and self love 😊

Today, we love in a world were people derive joy in pressing the necks of others. Trying to look like we're making it more than others and living the life. Filters help us give that illusion. But that's all it will ever be, an illusion. Because as long as we need filters to show ourselves, then we don't really have it.
Filter is okay when used in moderation, but the moment it becomes our identity, it becomes a problem.

It's just like you said; filters are very fun to use and isn't exactly a bad thing but it becomes a problem when we allow it to take over our lives, just like a lot of people do on social media.

That's just the sad truth, many have made filters their original and leading fake life on social media πŸ₯²

Your contagious smiles doesn't need filter to look awesome. Using filter is good if only it is not used to deception.

I get that most people use filters and that’s fine but some people just overdo it ha! πŸ˜‚ The filters have turn to become their daily bread. It’s annoying sometimes.πŸ˜‚

A girl deceived my cousin brother all because of this filter. An online relationship close to getting married got scattered when they met physically..I couldn't stop laughing out loud πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ€£πŸ€£
Well, I don't even use filter
I have never used it
I don't even have snap chat app on my phone
I love to snap in a sunny environment, that's my natural filter πŸ˜‚

Absolutely right. You said that you should use the filter image as entertainment in your life, don't make it your requirement because they are not reality.

Glad you use filters consciously. It is undoubtedly the best way to use them: knowing that they are just a tool, and not who we really are. Identifying yourself with the filter image is losing your identity and that is dangerous.

Fake life is too common and it is ruining the lives of so many people
A lot of people cannot take pictures without filter anymore
They believe they are not beautiful and they have forgotten that they are beautiful just the way they are

Filter in not for every place. It's not for making a fake identity. In social media we can see many examples of it.

I know when and where to use Filtered images,

That's good. In fact, i think everyone should know it very well. Otherwise trouble is unavoidable πŸ˜….
