Beautiful Spanish Patio I would Love to Have !!!

11.jpg

Ingenuity paid off...

When I attended the fiesta in our village about a week ago, I passed-by this patio full of beautiful flowers. I was curious why so plenty of visitors were there to take pictures. I always passed-by this area but I never went up because I thought it was a private front yard of the people living in the two apartment blocks.

3.jpg

I was surprised to see the ingenuity of the people living in the blocks, they have created masterpieces out of simple materials... old tires, pots, tubes, painted tin cans, pots hangers.

13.jpg

Just have a look at their creations, they have lovely imaginations on how things are arranged. Aren´t these creations wonderful!?

1.jpg

And what about this one, it´s a windmill made from two clay pots including a water well with a girl sitting on a bench.... !

2.jpg

Then I have observed how this tires were painted red and orange and the tires have been used a sort of a pot. The one in the middle is a plastic pipe, must have been a scrap and also painted on the color of the pot holders with the pots in the color of the tires so that the whole looks like a custom made planter.

5.jpg

Here is another tube attached to the wall that holds tin cans artistically painted. I think the top and the bottom is decorated with a candle holder that holds the potted plants.

6.jpg
The details of the bottom of the tube is decorated with a pot coaster

7.jpg

8.jpg

This is also one creation I love, made of two old tires painted red and blue, then a piece of round wood was cut that serves as a table with a pot holder in the middle. also for either flower arrangement or in this case, a potted Poinsettia. Anyone can sit on the white bench when tired.

9.jpg

The other end of the bench is also created equally with red painted tires and the table has a clay pot artistically painted. The ceramic pot design must have been bought at a ceramic shop.
10.jpg

Amazing inguin4.jpg

Flower pots hanging on the walls were painted nicely and visitors can see how these plants were lovingly taken cared of.

In the so many years of living in Spain, I have seen wonderful wall gardens with colorful pots, usually in blue and mostly planted with geraniums....

Spanish Wall in my former (Viennese) garden...

I liked what I saw everywhere in the villages I visited in Spain and I always wanted to have those potted plants too on my Viennese wall. So I brought along the metal braces all the ways from Spain and painted the pots green to give them a uniform look and planted them with red geraniums. So this had been my Spanish wall until 2020. We moved to an apartment with balcony coz we were tired of tending the garden...but perhaps I will do this again in the next planting season and continue with my container gardening.

I hope you got some creative ideas from this post.
Hope to see you next time...see you around!

Yep, really nice noh! Old tires have many uses, in Africa, aside from flower pots, they make them into "tsinelas". Glad you like the wall garden, I´ll be making them again come Spring .

I like to see the way it can be reused and not wasted, the tires and the windmill are my favorites, burning tires is something that does a lot of damage to the planet, hopefully the same thing will be done in many parts, it is a beauty and generates admiration

I do agree with you, I just hope a lot of people will follow this example of reusing the old tires. Yeah, the windmill is my favorite too and it looked so original the way it was built. Have a great week ahead!

Very nice initiative to help the environment! My family and I have also done something similar, my mother loves to grow plants, and we've been using used plastic and canned containers to grow our plants.

That's wonderful! I have also seen plenty of people using those soft drink bottles being planted with salad greens like pechay (pakchoi) or herbs . I have tried growing my lettuce in skyflakes tin cans and it was a success.

These are so pretty and creative. I love that the passion of gardening doesn't have to go, just because you might not have the ground to grow in.

I agree...there are so many ways to really grow anything. In my former garden.. I used cracker containers to plant my lettuce, had been successful in growing them and I have collected these containers over the years..I think I had about more than 20. I out them up on the rooftop to avoid the slugs on my garden ground..

I struggle with anything in containers come summer here. We get a lot of days around 40°C and up, so if I forget water at any point, they're gone. Some people manage it, but I'm too scatterbrained. 😆 I have great admiration for anyone growing in containers.

Oh, I know the heat is unbearable for the container plants, but there are some vegetable sorts that stand the heat... We do not get that 40° in Summer in Vienna so my container plants are doing fine at 32°C or so. Here in Spain, it could go up to more than 40°C in Summer, but I only have my Mediterranean plants. They stood the heat even without being watered. I thought I might show you my past lettuce in cracker containers ...

They look amazing! I wonder if I could get some sort of grow room going indoors. I want lettuce in summer, for cool, fresh make, but lettuce likes cool roots. Currently all ours are going to seed. I only ever get them growing well in winter when I want warmer meals. 😕

If I would have the chance and space...I like to grow my salad greens and tomatoes using hydroponic system, you won´t need soil, just water in cycle and nutrients... But I would like to have it certified organic. One can even grow salad indoor with LED lights using this system and added to that grown them vertically to save space.

If you have heard about the Plastic tents in Almeria (Spain), most of the vegetables distributed in Europe come from there and most farmers use hydroponic system because of space issues. Most farmers in the EU are subsidised and are strictly regulated, so the farmers can´t just grow as they like.

I'd love to add aquaponics to our growing system (my husband loves fish). Just where to fit it, though...
