The Birds Were The Culprits - What Have They Done?..... Check It Out!

The damaged master bedroom

Maybe it was our fault that we forgot to cover the mouth of the ceramic lions (drainage) when we left Andalusia for Vienna to escape the spread of the Corona Virus, end of January 2020. In all the years, we covered both tubes with a net to prevent the birds from coming in and rainwater could still flow without any hindrance. Unfortunately, because of our carelessness, the birds had their chance and built their nest inside during our absence. Logically, the ceramic tube was a safe place to lay eggs free from predators. The nests were so solid and thickly built that the rainwater stagnated on the above terrace where the two bedrooms downstairs are located. It must have rained heavily and the water somehow found its way down to the two adjacent rooms. We had a hard time removing the materials of the nests.

I had to remove everything off the wall, then called our mason who made the mouldings some 13 years ago, he is also a plasterer. Part of the mouldings had to be sawn and replaced with a new one. It was amazing to see how perfect he added the new moulding without any trace of the cut ones. We only have to wait for about a week and paint the room anew.

After 22 months of not being able to travel from Austria back to Spain because of the pandemic, I was so shocked at the status of the house when we arrived last October. The two bedrooms got traces of water damage particularly the ceiling as well as the curtains, the headboards and humidity had been all over.

As far as the curtains are concerned, they were washed now and ready to be hooked-up as soon as the painting of the room is done. I made everything including the headboards and curtains as well as the interior design of the two bedrooms including the two bed canopies. Speaking of the canopies, one was stained so I have to replace the fabric and I´ll be using the remnants I kept.

I went to the fabric shop located in Torrox Costa and I found the same Toile de Jouy design [below] I used for curtains for the windows in the staircase. I will be using it for the two headboards. I´ll be working on its upholstery in the next days, so stay tuned!

Who would have thought that so small animals could cause a damage to the house....or perhaps it was the fault of the builder because they did not do a good job in installing the ceramic drainage? Or was it perhaps our fault that we forgot to cover the drainage with the net to prevent the birds from coming inside the tube?

Until next time.... see you around!

It seems my reply to you did not get recorded. I am experiencing some bugs in here. At any rate, thanks for coming over and thanks for the kind words on my decoration. I am fond of designing a room. Am proud of it because it was a self-made talent based on books and videos in the internet...It´s just a make do where designs are based mostly on fabrics I acquire.

I guess the builder was at fault. He should have anticipated those things. Unfortunately, you cannot go after him anymore.

Yep, that is difficult to prove if that was the fault of the builder because we did not have this in this house for over a decade.

Uh oh.... that is a damage done by the birds? Well, they found a safer place to hatch their eggs which is safer for the youngsters.... Sorry for the damage, it is a pity really.

Indeed, they found a safer place to lay their eggs and no one disturbed them because the house was empty for 22 months. Thanks-
